OnStar to Bluetooth Conversion

Hello, I am looking to remove the OnStar from my 2005 STS and switch it to a Bluetooth System. Does anyone know how I can do this? Is there a place that can do this for me, or do I have to do it myself? If there is a place does anyone know where there would be one around Jacksonville FL? I wouldn't mind doing the change myself its just I don't know where to start and I'm afraid I'd break something, but if I had to do it myself is there a manual that give directions on how to strip down a 2005 STS so I don't break something?

I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Do you have the Navigation/Radio option? If so, there's no conversion. Just pair your Bluetooth phone (some have difficulty) & cancel Onstar.

If you don't have the Navi/Radio it will not be cost-effective to upgrade the radio. I'd recommend a cell phone with speaker-phone capabilites or a headset.

Have Fun!
Yeah, if you don't have Nav...you are on your own...a million Bluetooth products out there.I have a Pioneer nav radio with Bluetooth that works FARRRR better than the oem one in my STS-V, you might want to look into that. There is no need to remove the OnStar as it is intergrated into the car, just leave it off.
This is what you're looking for.. http://www.costartech.com/

It's a device which plugs into the OnStar system and lets you use the steering wheel buttons, auto mute, mic etc. I had emailed them since they didn't stock a unit for the STS but they wrote me back saying they just got it, so your in luck.

Hey guys,
I'm now a supporting member here, so if you have any questions on the BlueSTAR let me know. There is quite a lengthy thread on this in the AV section for anyone interested in the origins of this product.

I do have stock so any orders will be shipped next day, and I do offer a 60 day return policy should there be any problems.

Thanks!!

What would I need to order for a 2005 STS V8 with the base radio package? (i.e. no navi) I believe from your site that I'd be good with the BlueSTAR kit, but, I wanted to confirm with you first before ordering. Also, any ideas where the OnStar VIU is located on the 2005+ STS?

I've got the "digital-ready" version of OnStar, but, it hasn't been upgraded...nor do I ever plan to. It's completely useless at the moment, and giving it a way to pair with my phone would be amazing.
^^ I am very interested in a BlueSTAR kit for my vehicle as well.

2005 STS V6 w/ Base Radio (6CD changer, no Navi)
I have the analog OnStar, was going to upgrade to digital then subscribe but would be MUCH happier with bluetooth in the vehicle.

Let me know what I need to order from you (part #'s work great too) and I will order it up! Do you have a canadian distributor of your product or would you be interested in one?
I think Pacific Accessories Has an Add-on, too.
2005 and up uses the GMLAN based version.
You can find the complete kit on my website for $279.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks
Does it come with instructions? I don't have clue one where the VIU is on my STS. If you can point me in the direction, I'll order one immediately.
It should be behind the rear seat in the trunk area, same as my DTS. Take a look for it there first.
I'm certainly not pushing it, but if you use Verizon, you can combine your minutes as part of the Onstar hands free plan.
I don't have Verizon currently...and if I were to switch carriers it would be over to AT&T for an iPhone. Beyond that, I would have to commit to two (2) years of OnStar service that I don't want, and pay the small fee to convert my car to Digital OnStar (MY05s were "digital-ready"...mine is as dead as any other analog OnStar system at the moment).

I'll be taking attempting to locate the VIU this weekend...and at the point I feel confident I can complete the install, I'll be happily ordering! :)
If anyone is still looking for a unit I sell one called the Galaxy 1000. It is available at www.galaxy1000.com for $249, They are also Made in America!!!

Check us out, read our what our customers think of us on our testimonial pages.
The onstar module (VCIM) is on the passenger side in the trunk. you have to take the carpet panel off then you will see it bolted to the side.

So you just wire these BT modules in or do you have to take the onstar module out? The STS will NOT start without the onstar module connected. I am sure it can be rigged to but if you unhook the connectors to the onstar module the car will just say shift to park which is some kind of do not start cram from GM.

If you try to start the car with the headlights not connected it says the same thing.

These are not Seville. Your site says you do not make one for the STS. only the Seville is listed.
Looks like your a new sponsor, in any event, your posting in a section your website/product doesn't even support, where is the logic in that? Get out of this guys thread who has a product for our vehicle, and make your own.

EDIT: wow lots just happened with the hit of a button, looks like someone took care of it.

Can't wait to order one when you have them in stock again!
I just purchased and installed in my 2003 escalade. Works perfectly. It pairs and stays paired with the first phone if you are in a multiple phone family. If you want to pair another phone in the family you must delete the bluetooth profile first on the first paired phone and then pair the second phone.

Try going to www.galaxy1000.com. I ordered one and can't wait for it to arrive. It's my Christmas present to myself. :xsmile:
