I havent seen their recent prices but about a year ago i checked it out and it was like 20 cents a minute, which of course is a joke.

Edit: Actually looks like more than i thought

Something to think about when comparing OnStar with cell phone providers in general, is that OnStar uses all of them as service points.
When my family went to Minnesota for a funeral, most of the time we were driving in rural areas, and Onstar was the only phone that worked.
All of our cell phones had no reception.

The nice thing about the OnStar phone is that you don't have to sign any contracts for use, there are no long distance charges to call anywhere and you get the convenience of the voice activated hands free cellular phone.

It is one of the more expensive cell plans, over $0.30 per minute if my memory is working. On the other hand, it works nearly everywhere, is exempt from the laws banning cell phone usage while driving and won't be "left at home".

I have it on two vehicles simply for the safety and convenience factor. If I was really worried about the cost of telephones I wouldn't own any cell phones ... They are all more expensive than land lines. We have them for the convenience; same goes for OnStar.

Doesn't look too bad if you just think of it as a satellite phone, because thats basically what it is.

The onstar phone is an AMPS analog phone manufuctured by motorola. Therefore it will work everywhere where ANALOG cell service exists. However the call quality can be poor because it is analog. The reason why its so expensive is because they have roaming agreements with mojority of the serivece providers. ATT and Verizon being the two major ones.
