I've enjoyed working on this car so I don't mind that. The vehicle is in good condition but two of the frame rails have corrosion that don't meet the standard. The garage emphasized that the car was safe to drive as is but it just can't be registered under a new owner in Ontario. The fear is structural integrity in the event of a crash so ownership cannot be transferred with the vehicle in its current state.sorry to read this, especially after all the work you've put into it lately...

Thank you.She gets another shot at being roadworthy.
ReinCARnated.
FYI: I locked your FS post in Classifieds.
Realized I neglected to take these steps when I traded my Tahoe. There's no real "sticky" here for what to do when you sell a CTS so I'll just add my two cents here. I've done this twice now - the first with my 2009 and now with the 2010.
I "deprogrammed" the garage door opener so future owners of the car cannot use the car to open my garage. To do that, you start the car and you hold the outer two HomeLink GDO buttons for 20 seconds or more - until the red light blinks rapidly. Worked like a charm.
Next, I went into the HDD and deleted all my music.
Finally, I went into the Navigation app and cleared my address book and all previous destinations.
I value my privacy to some extent...
The main thing is that it has a shot at being a loved vehicle. The young man buying it is far from wealthy but seems to know people who could help him - and maybe a mechanic who will safety it after some non-OEM welding. But I was clear with the buyer that it needs suspension work - bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, springs and probably even shocks all around. He didn't seem to care.don't forget to remove any CDs if you are old enough to be using them (like me) get those sunglasses out too...
bittersweet I'm sure...I thought something was up before reading this when I saw the new Avatar...nice to know it will continue with renewed attention from its new owner...

No CDs - my head unit had a peculiar problem that I never addressed and it wouldn't play CDs and the HDD only worked sporadically (and usually only when cold). I'm sure it was a solder joint crack somewhere but I could never find it. I had procured a replacement used head unit from ebay but never bothered to send it away to get it programmed to my CTS' VIN so it sat in a box for a couple of years. And now that box is in the trunk of the car.
I bought those 17s in late 2008 from some outfit in Texas and had them shipped to Ogdensburg. They look pretty good at their age considering the salt they've had to contend with. Those are my favorite 17" wheels for the Gen II
Here's to more road time for Northern's CTS!
A big fat +1 on roping that new owner onward for the next 5,000 posts here! I'm in just to watch the welding porn. Please please please tell me you implored the new owner to join Cadillac Forums to continue the evolution of this thread.
Or is it time for me to hijack? You know, that is my style...![]()
Criminnetly! Someone's livin' lucky with that '09. I hope there were no people injuries.26 months and 1195 posts later (no, not all mine - although it seemed like that to me at times). Last night, the new owner came and drove away. He was beaming - exactly as I felt when I picked up my first CTS (to be repeated a year later when I bought this one).
Two reflections:
I've been driving a CTS since late in the year 2008 - a little over 14 years. That's easily the longest I've ever driven one model of car (since my 2009 and 2010 were as identical as GM would allow) and represents 1/3 of my driving life. That's a long time.
Secondly, it's way better to see my 2010 drive away with a beaming new owner like this:

than it was saying goodbye to my 2009:
