i have a 96 deville and the sensor for the oil level is bad, the one that goes on the side of the oil pan, does anyone know where i can get one besides the dealer?

Yep, either of the sites Ranger mentioned. Someone told us once that the oil level sensor could be changed with the oil pan full. Later, someone else came along and said "I did that and made a huge mess." I had to replace mine a few months ago. I would suggest doing it when you change the oil. It's very easy to change it. Just need a wrench and the new part. Let us know how it works out for you.

Considering that the CHECK OIL LEVEL message doesn't come on til 2 qts. low, I would have to assume that the sensor is 2 qts. below the full line. I would definately not attempt it with a full sump. I would follow Micheals advice and do it at oil change time.

yeah im due for an oil change soon anyways so itll work out good, the dealer wants 42 for that damn sensor, whew theyre crazy
