When I use synthetic oil in my CTS, my indicator says it needs an oil change. The trouble is the synthetic oil can go well over 3,000 miles. But the indicator is showing it needs an oil change way before it needs it. What I do?

The oil life meter takes into consideration many more things than mileage. Mine hits 20% at about 7000 miles depending on how I’ve been driving. The only thing I can assume is you must be driving in severe climate or driving very hard ti get it to hit 0% in 3000 miles. Do you reset it at your last oil change??

Could be time, I think it will indicate an oil change after one year regardless of mileage.

correct...after 1 year even if you never drove the car the Oil Life Monitor (OLM) would indicate you need to change your oil...no matter what oil you used...

I change mine around 5-6k or at 9 months. Most good synthetic oils are good for 7,500 miles or 1 year. But of course this depends on how many short drives one does. BMW and Audi recommend an oil change at 10k miles or 1 year.
