Oil Capacity on CTS-V

What is the oil capacity on a 2004 CTS-V?

I read in the FAQ that it takes 5-6 Qts... I want to know what the "official" number is...

If anyone has their oil changed at the dealer, what I'm really after here is, how many QT's do they charge for?

The original dealer I went to charged for 5 and the oil change was $56.68, which I can stomach for Mobil 1 and all...

Today, new dealer, 8 QT's and $79.89
Time to go back and have a "discussion" with them. I would like a little "ammo" from my friends on the forum as to what they have experienced in Dealer Oil Changes...

:thehand: Please... No Thread bashing for having the dealer change the oil... I am only doing this for documentation/history/records for warranty purposes.. :thehand:

6 quarts...it's an ls6...5.3 and 4.8's are the same just about all the LSx motors take 6 quarts.....you might need 6.1-6.2 if your really finnicky about being at dead full.
The service manual indicates 6 quarts w/o filter and 6.5 quarts w/filter. My dealer, which I also use for absolute documentation purposes, charges 8 quarts, but shows a gross unit price of $8.37 reduced to a "net" of $6.00. This results a $48.00 charge for the oil itself. In the overall scheme of things, I do not consider this all that bad. I suspect, but do not know, that many dealers buy their popular oils in bulk containers and do not know with absolute precision how many quarts their dispensing.

What is your "out the door" price on a single oil change service? (filter, oil, labor, tax, disposal, etc...)

edit: listed the wrong OTD price of oil change at second dealer
I had them charge me for 8 quarts once. Come to find out the tech put almost 8 quarts of oil in my car thinking it was some different 8 cyl Cadillac engine. Needless to say the dealership had the car back the next day and performed a 2nd oil change. This time they used and charged for 6 quarts as they had the 4 previous ones. I watch each one like a hawk now.

6.5 quarts. RTOM.
I don't get it. If you're going to be so anal about an oil change, DO IT YOURSELF. Besides being cheaper and EASY, you know exactly how much and what it is that is going into your engine.

In addition to the $48.00 already described, my dealer charges $59.95 as a package price that includes: (a) the oil filter; (b) tire rotation; (c) labor on the oil change and inspection of all fulid levels and drive belts, etc. presumably as required the Maintenance I schedule. Finally, there is a $4.50 environmental disposal charge and sales tax. The total is $120.00.

I think you missed the point :tisk:

It has NOTHING to do with being anal about my oil changes
1) I get it done at the dealership so if anything goes wrong with the motor, they have all the oil changes documented for warranty purposes. They can't say "Well, you threw a rod 'cuz you never changed the oil" or some B.S. like that... (Once the warranty is up, I do 'em myself )

2) It has to do with not being anally raped on what I'm charged... if you went to the gas station and bought 15 gallons of gas, would you be OK with paying for 20 gallons? If so, kudo's to you...

FYI, I do change the oil on my other 2 cars and my bike... so... Thank's for your input :highfive:

I agree. My cars (and bikes) belong to the Dealer until the warranties run out. Doing it yourself is only cheaper if nothing ever goes wrong.
6-1/2 qts? Man, I didn't know that. :banghead: I've been putting in 6 qts even each time, and it shows right in the middle of the cross-hatched area on the dipstick. When I change it at between 3.5-4k miles, it's still at that same level. I suppose I'm okay, though, since the extra half qt would be most beneficial for cooling if I was tracking or something ... which I'm not.

6.5 qts is gonna screw up the six-quart-case routine I do at Costco. :rant2:

Maybe your next mod should be Milodon 7 quart (7 1/2 w/filter) road racing oil pan. Then you can buy gallons instead of quarts.

Drop your car off at my house, and I will charge you $119.00

Okay, as soon as you put about $10,000 in an escrow account to cover potential warranty claims.
The dealer used to charge me $95. Now I go to a private guy, yesterday was $200+. Im not happy about the prices, but it takes me forever to do and I'm not that comfortable under the car while its jacked up on stands. I'd rather just pay to have it done. He does 7 quarts, plus changed the rear to royla purple, topped off the wiper fluid and road tested. He also gave me a ride in his 67 GTO, 424 bored 30 over. Worth every penny.
So I take it you prepare all of your own meals and never eat out ?
 points
TRY THIS:

I take my oil and filter to the dealer and he charges $10.12 to change it. It is documented in the history. They also top off all fluids.

Be one with your car...
Do your own oil changes. SUPER EASY!
