It's been real folks. The 2013 ATS served me well for 4 years but at 72k miles the warranty was up and I really need something I can haul stuff in. My wife has a 2017 Malibu so we still have a sedan and the Equinox gives us utility when we need that. Here are some notes.

ATS was fun to drive but the wife didn't care for the rougher ride than her car and the Equinox rides even smoother and quieter than the Cadillac XT4 we drove for about 150 miles while my ATS was in the shop. During the last 4 years and 72k miles the ATS only needed four repairs. 1. AC smell fan post run update. 2. Motor mounts replacement for rough idle. 3. Cam position sensor. 4. CUE screen replacement.
The rest was just normal stuff like oil, tire, and filter changes.

Equinox is a 2019 Premiere the 2.0 turbo 4 and 9 speed is enough power to get out of the way when needed. Ride is very smooth and it's very quiet inside except for some faint tire noise on cement roads. The radio and tech features are amazing and blazing fast. Apple Car play and Android Auto are fantastic. All dash and wheel controls are easy to understand and within reach. Handling is not as good as the ATS but much better than expected, it's kinda like driving a tall Malibu. Surround view backup cam is very cool.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions, this was the best forum I've ever been on by far. Cheers.

Enjoy your new Equinox, it is a very nice design! Not sure yet what will replace my ATS in a year but so far I am not seeing anything in the Cadillac lineup that is screaming take me home.

We loved everything about the XT4 except the disappointing ride quality and cabin noise level. The messaging seats were fantastic! It was also at least 10k more than the Equinox. If it rode smooth and quiet I might have bought it but it just didn't seem like a $47k car.

I would like to replace my ATS with either a coupe or sedan with RWD. I glanced at the info on the CT4 which looks like it would be in the running but I don't care for its turbo 4 cylinder from GM's pickup truck line which has less power than the naturally aspirated 3.6. I might test drive one and I will see what the CT5 looks like when more information is released but I have a feeling the ATS replacement for me is going to be born in Germany.

Outside of Cadillac division, RWD in cars is pretty much extinct at GM. I can't see replacing the ATS with a Camaro , I already have a Corvette Z06 which isn't a daily driver, and with a heavy duty pickup I don't want a full size SUV as a daily because I don't need the space or towing/hauling capability.

Congrats and enjoy the new ride. I would have gotten rid of the Malibu and kept the ATS, and just put different tires on it that ride better. I assume it still had the runflats.

I keep my cars forever and the ATS will be no exception, not many choices for an easily affordable RWD luxury sport sedan with a manual transmission that meet all my criteria. Plus I get emotionally attached to my cars haha.

No, I did not have the run-flats, they got replaced as soon as I go the car. The ride was not the only issue, the Malibu is much newer (2017) so it has all the latest tech and basically the same motor and trans as the Equinox. That's my wife's car and she loves the ride and that all the technology works well. She uses every feature on a car. The ATS was a 2013 with the old sloooowww CUE system and rougher ride than the Malibu.

Looking to trade my 2015 in on a 2020 Accord EX-L 2.0 10 sp, reg gas, good ride much roomier, have 67k in 4 1/2 years no issues at all mostly hyway driving but hard ride even with non RFs and uncomfortable passenger seating [get complaints from that side of car] have marked the end of the line for me and Cadillac not to mention 30% of paid price as current value on trade in and that's from my Caddy dealer unsolicited had hoped to get 6yrs and 100k out of this car but Cue uncertainity makes that a roll of the dice. My trade in on that's was a 2004 Accord EX-L V6 with 145k and one frozen caliper in 10 years of driving, just saying.

Can't blame you, those new models look pretty sweet and are well equipped at a reasonable price. If your getting good money for your ATS, then why not. Enjoy.

Looking to trade in by end of year ,it looks like Honda will start delivering 2020 models late Nov, I am not optimistic on actual trade in value of my ATS based on BB values and what dealers are willing to offer, in several Car mags ATS is rated 3rd from bottom in retained value, some forum members have claimed better offers from Car Max and other sites like them. Bear in mind 7% NJ tax makes a 10k trade in worth 10700 [just using those numbers as example]. For the most part I have been satisfied with the car, I notice latest Caddy service offers seem to reflect "Escalade" pricing taking a cue from the Germans. Mid size and larger SUVs full service brake job OEM parts 3k , had my 2011 SRX done at local GMC dealer OEM pads and after market rotors 750 total. just saying.

I drove the Accord EX before buying the ATS. Very nice car. Definitely more room and features for the money, but the driving experience was not the same. Would have been a better financial decision to go with the Honda, but I push the ATS hard in corners when I have the chance and the Accord would not inspire me to do so. I haven't looked at the newest models, but the Accord keeps improving.

The 10th Gen Accord 2018 and up is a big departure from previous Gens lower stance, 2.0 T 252hp [detuned Civic R engine], either 10sp auto or 6 manual available runs on reg gas and 1/4 mi times similar to ATS according to some buyers running on premium improves performance. Car is available in Sport model, very sharp looking car with 19" rims and LP tires + sport suspension. A few complaints from buyers who did not really understand what kind of ride you get with "sport suspension" models [although not as all out as the ATS] very roomier interior and cargo space, just saying.

I know, there is a lot of math that goes into this, trade vs sale, cost to repair, tax difference vs sale-trade... After preaching that you should sell the car and not trade it in.. I traded it in. Might have lost money on the trade vs sale but I avoided about a grand in repairs and maintenance that was due now and maybe even more if the car had developed other problems before I could sell it. Had a broken heat shield and chipped windshield and the sales guy said no problem, we'll deal with that. Upside I got all the exact options I wanted (hard to find on short notice) and I don't have to worry about repairs for years. Oh, and huffing that new car smell for the few days has me feeling really good. :)

Wow, I test drove an Equinox 2.0T and found it to be rather noisy with excessive road noise and an exhaust that's prone to drone. I'd have bought it if the NVH had been more subdued. I guess we don't all perceive road noise the same.
Not mine. I got the 2019 Premiere trim so maybe they do some more NVH stuff on those. Engine noise is faint and with no rasp, and I can't hear the exhaust at all. The only thing I really notice is the Hanook tires make slight high pitch wine on cement roads. I'm going to try Continentals when they need to be replaced.

I've never driven an internal combustion engine vehicle in which I couldn't hear exhaust noise to some degree. I'm sorry but I don't find your story believable.
