Which O2 sensor are you trying to locate? There can be as many as four O2 sensors on a V8 engine.
damn i dont know um do u know where they all are??? thanks

There are 4 of them. They are labeled as follows:

Bank 1, Sensor 1: In the exhaust manifold for the rear cylinder bank
Bank 1, Sensor 2: Just before (in front of) the catalytic converter
Bank 1, Sensor 3: Just after (behind) the catalytic converter
Bank 2, Sensor 1: In the exhaust manifold for the front cylinder bank

If you have an O2 sensor code, it will be noted with B2S1, B1S3, etc. and those correspond to the table above. There are 2 different kinds of sensors for a '96. One type fits the B1S1 and B2S1 positions and the other type fits the B1S2 and B1S3 positions. They are all heated oxygen sensors. I have heard of problems with the Bosch sensors, so it is recommended to use the AC-Delco ones available from some local parts shops or www.rockauto.com or www.gmpartsdirect.com. Strangely, the Delcos are actually a little less expensive than the Bosch sensors.

Let us know the codes if you have any and we can tell you which one(s) to replace and how to get the job done.

actually i do not know of any codes that i have for the o2 sensors i have been getting a "emmisions system servie" message and i heard that it could be the o2 sensor in the bank 1 sensor 1, the code i have PC0135 (translates to P0135) so i am going to try to find and then soon change that sensor and hopefully that should fix the problem thanks again!!!

The P0135 code means the B1S1 sensor is not working properly, and that's why you're getting the emissions system message on the dash. Change out that sensor with AC-Delco part number AFS109 and you will solve both problems and get better gas mileage and performance as well. Here's a link to the O2 sensors available for your car at www.rockauto.com:
