My 76 deville needs help. the transmission seems to be having a lil problem. . . it won't go backwards only forwards. . . no matter what gear its in (other than park.) why? This car has been sitting for a while I just bought it bout a week ago. I changed the oil and oil filter, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires. what else should I do to make run smooth. I'm not much of a mechanic nor do I have much money :crying: , so what simple and inexpensive things can I do before taking it to a "MECHANIC"? :D

Maybe it's a shifter linkage problem. If you give some specifics on how the engine is running, people would have a better idea of how to fix it.
