I've owned my 2009 for just about a year. Over that time, I've had the car washed at the local detailer. The last few days I've taken the time to clay, polish and glaze it, so this is the first time I've really gotten up close and personal with the finish, and I'm not really impressed.
To the point:
1. The front passenger door has a blemish, about 1/8" in diameter, similar to a fish eye, where the paint seemed not to adhere and it looks pinkish in color,
2. The passenger side C pillar has a 2" long raised blemish, where it looks like something was caught under the paint and the paint was simply applied over it,
3. The orange peel on the left side doors is noticeably more pronounced than that on the rest of the car,
4. The left side edge of the trunk lid, both the vertical and horizontal edges, have excess paint. It "pooled" along the edge as though it was about to run.

So much for robotic painters and a "sterile" painting environment. :bonkers:

BTW ... what's behind the square "plugs" located on the rear left and front right bumper covers?

I feel your pain, but, now after 1 year you're just "looking closely" at the paint.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that goes over the entire car before it leaves the dealer, documenting any specific defects or concerns with paint or fit/finish.
BTW, the CRM is a killer color on your ride. You made a great choice.

Now the old dilemma, get the blemishes fixed and have the dealer "F" it up worse or live with it.

Good luck
George

My CR paint was well done at the factory. I only had one run under the hood where the factory went a bit heavy with clear coat that required some wet sanding. My issue is how badly the paint chips. I have a bunch of chips in front of the rear wheels. I have become real good at touch up and wet sanding with this car.

Thanks George. When I took possession of the car, I did give it the once over and didn't really see anything that I needed to make note of. The areas I described really weren't detectable unless you really really inspected ALL of the paint up close, which I admit, I didn't do.

I won't fix any of these defects as I'll probably be the only one that sees any of them. It's just that I'd expect a lot more attention to detail. Maybe I"m asking too much but stuff like this shouldn't happen.

I didn't even mention chips!! I have numerous ones along the front chin spoiler and on the paint between the two grills. They are all extremely tiny but chips nonetheless. My Corvette, which has seen two cross country jaunts, has only chipped on the after-market hood. The front fascia has not one chip. Go figure. :hmm:

Sigh, another lost front end paint job, killed by rock chips. Could have been prevented with a clear bra. :(

Exactly! It is insane how easy it chips! The overall quality on mine looks great as far as orange peel etc, but man, look at it too hard and it chips?

Yup...I got a little run off drip from over spray on the trunk crease of my Coupe. All in all it's good paint job. Not perfect. I Kind of liken it too the organic way we approach car building of Musclecars in America. Still using the pushrod motors versus overhead cam design, etc. it's all good.

I know how its settling on mediocrity in crafstmanship, but it is, what it is; kind of like City Hall, hard to fight it.

Now we're you gonna find such a kick-ass Hot Rod ride like this V for $65-$70k with all the bells and whisltes. You can't, unless it's used and with a diminshed warranty.

Now go out and hug that V in your garage and tell it your sorry...very sorry.

Enjoy and hold on for the ride.

The Genesis this is replacing has superb paint and fit. Paintwork and panel fit on my car? :p But the way it drives makes me forget about allll of it. I just wish the General did a better job on the exterior! But for the money? You can't buy a better driving sports sedan, period.

Hmm - I've heard of manufacturers fixing shipping damage at port when the vehicle comes in... or sometimes, the dealer does the same after the car gets delivered. They don't usually tell you about it in either case. Perhaps one of those two happened here?

Yeah i had the dealer fix some of the issues on brake light area paint chipping and some under sprayed (like missed) areas behind the door pulls and a small section on the trunk lid by the crease that was missed. After two tries it has some little fish eyes now that were not there before and still a tiny run under that crease in the trunk lid. I should left it alone. And they can t even put the V Emblem back on straight. Back again to the dealer...

The flagship of the GM fleet and they can't get it right! Maybe they should have withheld some of the bailout/stimulus payback so that could hire some qualified help.

Now, now guys. You get what you pay for in this car and any other one. We bought a car that offers way more performance than the price would allow if everything was built to a higher standard. I hate some of the quality issues in regard to interior materials and paint but think it is perfectly acceptable quality when you look at the whole package you have in the V. I can walk around cars that cost a lot more than this one and find paint issues too. In today's environmentally friendly world it has become much more expensive to paint a vehicle and also the materials that manufacturers are allowed to use just are not as good. Of course, I am not saying there are still not any good paint jobs on factory cars, there are, but in this case I think the paint was cheapened to hit a price point.

So ... with a price tag of 70k PLUS, I can't expect to get performance AND quality?:hmm:
