Not the emission system

Okay, so I went to AutoZone and had them scan the check engine light and is said something about irregular air flow. The guy erased the code before I could read it and he obviously doens't have a photographic memory. So, he told me that it could be my air filter. I pulled it out (while I was there) and he said it wasn't bad but that it wasn't good either. They didn't have the Fram CA8255 in stock. I didn't replace it. Would replacing the air filter solve the issue?
