Driving home the other day my service stability, traction and brake message came
on,after a trip to Best dealership they found a bad rear wheel hub to the tune of
$600.00. The CTS coupe is a 2011 with 37,000 and was told not covered by
warranty. Is this normal? I see a lot of post about this problem.

4 years, or 50,000 miles...which ever occurs first. Do you know your in service date? I would think if you are outside of your in service date with low miles a good faith deal could be arrived at, if not better.

They stopped covering wheel hubs under the powertrain warranty after 2009. It would only be covered if you're within the regular 4 year warranty.

I paid under $400 at my regular mechanic's shop. He said this is a very common issue with GM cars, which of course is why they no longer cover it once the initial warranty is up.

Part has lifetime warranty, labor does not. Go to your independent mechanic.

The GM lifetime warranty covers free replacement of the part for the life of the vehicle. If it is done at a GM dealership, the first replacement labor charge is covered.

----------

The thing that kills me the dealer said the replacement part comes with a lifetime warranty, why don't they use that part when they build the car.
It's small comfort, but knowledge is power.

GM assembly divisions are separate from GM parts. The lifetime warranty is a parts marketing program.

Contacted Cadillac customer service today, waiting to hear back on what they will do. My bumper to bumper is up by 4 1/2 months, powertrain is good. I still can't believe with the amount of problems Cadillac and GM has had with these hubs that they have not step up and recalled.

If you're the first owner of the vehicle, there's a chance. If not, your chances are greatly diminished.

Just let it go.. These vehicles eat wheel bearings. If you enjoy going fast into turns like i do..this will greatly shorten their life. After 186,000 miles I have not replaced the rear bearings...yet!...but both fronts have been changed out. Its a CTS ! drive like you stole it!

Happy motoring

Update, the dealer refunded half of the $600.00, however Cadillac will not step up on the labor.I have contacted the National High Way Safety And better business.

Nothing wrong with the wheel bearings! It was the sensor that is part of the hub bad design that you need to replace the complete hub and not just a sensor.

It is not limited to Cadillac either, I replaced both front wheel hubs on my Chevy Suburban 3 years ago and now my drivers side is humming again. Fortunately I am able to replace these hubs myself for about $175.00. For some reason GM decided to suck at certain things, wheel bearings being one of them.

You're a little confused..."replacement part comes with a lifetime warranty, why don't they use that part when they build the car"...replacement part with a lifetime warranty doesn't mean the replacement part last a lifetime...:tisk:

Nope. The replacement part last its lifetime.
