All,
The Story:
1) I'm not a mechanic, but do most of my own repairs on vehicles when necessary.
Recently discovered a gas leak on the passenger side filter. Purchased the filter... but due to the snow here in NY... I have yet to install it. As such, the last few times I started the car had me priming it once or twice by turning the key forward into position 'C' (on, but not starting position).
So... yesterday, I turned the key forward once... then again... and went to start it... but no start. Won't turn the engine over at all. The fuel pump does come on... as the drip in the yet-to-be-repaired filter is still there.
I start looking through this forum, youtube, etc... and went about trying to get it started. Here's what I have done:
Pulled all the fuses and checked them. They are good.
Tested battery. It is good.
In doing the fuse test above... I noticed that I could hear what I presume is the ECM cycling when I pull and insert the ECM fuse.
From inside the car... I noticed that none of the dash lights (except for the theft system and brake light) for illuminating when I put the key in starting position.
So... I decided to pull the starter relay and tried jumping it. The engine turned over... but did not start.
Being that I had read about the theft system causing people fits... I tried the pull the ecm fuse, wait five minutes deal, too. No results.
In doing this... I decided to pull the 7.5 amp fuse. I was really grasping at straws at this point. When doing so... I noticed a sound coming from the ECM area. For sh!ts and giggles... I tried jumping the starter relay WHILE THIS SOUND WAS HAPPENING (after pulling the 7.5A fuse...). The car started.
I get all excited... thinking I've made progress. Get in the car, stick it in Reverse to back out of my driveway... and then put it in Drive. When doing so... the transmission feels like I'm starting out in a high gear. I can get the car moving forward at a good clip... but I don't hear the tranny switching gears.
Furthermore, the tachometer and speedometer do not work. Radio and fan works fine.
I return to my driveway, turn off the car... and it won't start... UNLESS I pull the theft fuse, and jump it while the ECM (I think) is making noise.
So... million dollar question: What can I do to get this running normal?
I can't tell you how much I'd appreciate all of your help. Thank you!
