caddy forums has always guided me thank you all for info and help...i have 2001 deville it has not ran hot at all,although at times it has acted as if it wants to over heat but temp seems to stay at normal.the past two days i have been smelling some coolant i just changed temp sensor so i thought that the smell was from that but i noticed yesterday morning at turn on it was smoking at turn a little but thought maybe just some humidity in muffler or somthing went to work ok and came home ok this morning holy cow....smokeing like a bandit and smelling coolant....but it doesnt seem to over heat...any info or help...any info is gladly appreciated and helpful..everybody is saying headgasket but hopeing maybe its somthing else thank you caddy forum

Well if the exhaust smells like coolant sweet smell and its puffing smoke out like a locomotive it doesn't sound good maybe a cracked head or head gasket, I'd do a radiator pressure test and leave it for a couple of hours to see if it lost pressure...
The heads don't crack on these things. A cylinder liner, maybe (#7 ?) - there have been a couple of those in here over the years. Sweet smell and heavy vapor is coolant.

i know its really not a good sign and it all looks like head gasket...but to happen like that very surprising.i know i was leaking a little from crossbar but i put tabs in there and it stopped.just thinking could it maybe be a intake gasket or something...anything just not the headgaskets please.....
Dude... If those two ^^ say it's the headgasket... it's the headgasket. Do yourself a huge favor and don't spend too much time looking for what-if scenarios. Have the block test done and you'll have your answer.
It is not cold enough ANYWHERE in the country right now to warrant THAT much steam.
It is very odd indeed for a head gasket to go like that. They generally start very slow and work there way up over a very long time. I've never heard of one going like this. I just can't think of anything else that would allow it to be ingested.
The intake is dry. There is no coolant running through it.
yes indeed a head gasket...after many good devilles i have had this is the the first to crap out like this...engine is way to expensive and to service the heads on this one is no fun. as nice as it is to have one im gonna get this one ready for auction and make sure i sell it one way ticket.im gonna try blue devil stuff or motor purr metallic seal up i used motor purr on other cars and it seemed to help. its temporary but the only solution i can think of.at this piont which i know you are all against is any other stuff i can use to temporary fix??????? thank you caddy forum

·For real, usually they advise you to spend hundreds of dollars before they admit it and tell you the bad news.
We always tell people to check the free things first and verify BEFORE spending any money. That is documented and pretty easily proven. The only money I ever tell anyone to spend is on a test kit. There are enough people here that know the truth and can see through your lies.

thank you guys for your help but no thanks for your remarks you guys sound like the same idiots that put the northstar in a caddy in the first place.....you guys are not the only people with know how on here...and i might not be certified mechanic but i do know about cars.and caddy forum has been great and again a specail thanks for all who have took the time to help and answer and resolve....i took car to auction and sold it with no additives in coolant sold it as is.so that resolves that one now i will just keep my 07 dts.thanks again caddy forum.
Can you tell me the specifics of the car you sold at auction? I am curious about how much you got for you car at auction? i sold it for3600 as is.if i would of put auction guarntee it would of brang a little more mines didnt have nav but the nice pearl white with roof and with 07 dts chrome wheels...and mines had 130k miles im assuming yours with nav and all the goodies should be about 5500-6000 all depending whos bidding and how car looks and runs.and with auction guarntee.if you have a carmax dealer by you they will make you a 7 day offer to buy your car and you dont have to buy anything from them.good luck with selling her a lot of people are just way to scared of that pesky northstar engine.
