No more waxing or sealing your finish anymore!!! Ever hear that statement before? I hear it allot and it seems that car dealers are passing this misinformation around. I think that in order to justify the outrageous prices they charge for their paint sealant application, (around here anywhere from $600-$900) they tell people do it once and you never have to do it again. I guess if you look at it from their distorted view point, I can say I don’t ever have to take a shower either. But if you don’t want people to run away from you, you better take care of your hygiene. You really don’t have to ever wax or seal your car either, however if you want it to look good and be protected, you had better do something to protect and enhance the finish. In my detailing clinics I’m shocked at the amount of people that fall prey to false statements about car care. When it gets right down to it, the clear coat system (on most cars made from late 70’s to present) is only 4 mils thick which is like a piece of paper. In order to achieve clarity, color enhancement, slickness, reflectivity, depth, and over shine, you need to apply the best sacrificial layer of protection you can on the top of your finish. When I get a car in that is going to show, it takes work to create a mirror finish. Most of the time people ask how I get outstanding results the way I do, and I tell them all the same thing. All you need is the right products, and know how to use them. Seems simple enough, but I still get cars in my shop that people attempt to do themselves and do damage to the finish. So you expect use to drive to Chicago for a paint job. What I'm sayng is that you cant sell use the coat and we get professional to do it for us?

The point I'm trying to make is the paint sealant I sell on my web site for $10 is the same product I use to paint seal the cars I do for dealers. They charge $800, you can do it for 10 bucks. (one bottle does 4 cars) Chemicals are not that expensive, whenever you get a great product, like synthetic sealants, someone, (like car dealers) are going to upcharge it because they figure the average car buyer is uneducated. They are correct, which is why dealers sell tons of paint seal packages all day long. My business, which is education in car care, is dedicated toward teaching you how to do it yourself without spending the big bucks. make sense? gary

Tell me about the average person not being educated. I seroiusly question your knowledge base--leftover from the laquer days--in car care because it's clear that your more interested in selling something to somebody, than educate them in proper care of clear coat paint.

The point I have been trying to make is that waxing, sealing, polising is a bunch of bullshit. My car has never been waxed, and I never wax my cars. Why is it that everyone always asks me, "What type of wax do you use?"

Why don't you investigate the most authoritive source available? Look in your owner's manual. (They already have your money, so their only vested interest is trying to keep your car looking nice.) It says all that you need to do is keep it clean, and it doesn't say a thing about routine waxing or the use of other weasel piss. That's because waxing will destroy the clear coat by causing microscratches.

The only mention about waxing/polishing/buffing is if the paint starts to detoriate. Of course you should use "GM products." You cannot blame 'em on this one; after all, if you insist on destroying your paint and throwing your money away during the process, they might as well try to intercept cash that's on the table.

It is too bad that you are off base on your perception of what I'm doing. I came here to sponsor the forum, that means I PAID money to be here to talk about car care. I write (and get paid) for Professional Car Washing and Detailing Magazine, America's Car Care Business, and I host my own detailing column in the Star News. I have detailed cars that have been "best of show" and honored in trade magazines. The Chicago Tribune and the Daily Herald have printed articles about my business (read them on my web site www.perfectautofinish.com) on how I focus on education in the car care industry. I have been referred to as en expert in my field by my peers. I have detailed Oprah's car and Michale Jordan's car and have a loyal following of customers. as far as your comments about never needing to wax a car? the only way I will agree with that statement is if you never drive it. if you do drive it, how can you avoid mother nature's blow of air borne contaminants she throws on your cars finish.? You can't if you drive. I believe you fall into the minority of opinions on this topic. take a look at my post "truck from hell" and tell me you I could of make the car look that good without deep cleaing/polishing and sealing.
