I have a 2019 ATS Luxury Edition and constantly finding myself starting the car only to find that my USB drive is not being shown as connected. Then after turning off the car and CUE device and then restarting the car and turning the CUE device on, my USB shows up and plays. Frustrating part is that once you are driving, there is no way to get the USB device working when it shows up as not being connected until you turn off the car and restart it. Pain in the keester when you are on a long road trip without your cruisin tunes.

On my ATS, the "No Device Connected" only happens sometimes after a start. I have not seen it happen while driving.
If it happens while driving, maybe the USB is loose.

When it happens to me, I find that all I need to do is go to CUE home, select Audio, then press USB and it plays.

My USB devices have been solidly reliable in my 2014 ATS and 2016 Corvette but my 2018 GMC Denali HD pickup was having the same intermittent issues not recognizing the USB drives as you are having. What cured the issue in my 2018 GMC was to use the older USB 2.X devices rather than USB 3.X drives. Yes, the 2018 is supposed to be compatible with USB 3 and USB 3 sticks are supposed to be backwards compatible with earlier standards but I can empirically state that isn't true with at least some of the current GMC systems. My 2014 ATS and 2016 Z06 are fine with either USB 3 or USB 2 sticks but my Denali had intermittent glitches with different brand and size USB 3 but the problems disappeared once I reserved the older USB 2 sticks for it.

I presume there is some sort of timing issue or other glitch and you are right, it is really annoying and I definitely didn't like having to shut off a cold diesel engine and restart just to get the infotainment system to recognize a USB memory stick.
