I have a 98 deville that doesn't have 4th gear and its really pissing me off b/c on the highway she is close to 3 grand on the tack. It shifts into 2nd and 3rd pretty smooth but no 4th. Also when you go from D to 3 the is no change in rpms. its been like this for a little while with no error codes until the other day i got the code P0741 (TTC stuck).

I cleared the code hoping that would get 4th gear back, but that didn't happen. So no again no code and no 4th gear.........shouldn't there be codes flashing in my face with a big issue like this..........:hmm:

I checked the trans fluid and everything looks good with that. Any help would be great!!!

That is peculiar. It may be something as simple as a clogged valve somewhere. Have the fluid and filter changed, but DO NOT flush it. Sometimes something that simple can make a world of difference.

TCC (Torque Convertor Clutch) operation affects the 4th gear engagement and "5th gear" convertor lockup. Unfortunately the fix is a $50 fluid pressure control solenoid buried $2,000 (in labor) inside the transmission. This problem is peculiar to the 4T80E transmission (FWD Cadillacs from about 1994 to 2004+).

Fluid changes and flushes don't fix this one............

You'll have to enter the DTC mode and look for codes in each module. I don't think the TCC fault will set a message in the DIC. Maybe a transmission message or speed limited.......not sure.

I thought that was the input speed sensor. The TCC solenoid should only be about $600 deep as you just have to drop the trans and remove the side pan to change it. :bighead:

Just took in the car and they told me all solenoids checked out fine, but the torque convertor needs to be replaced and 4th gear is fried. They want $2000.00 for a rebuild, is that an ok price? It will be done at transmission shop, i don't even want to know what a dealer charge.

That is about right. My '88 cost me $1495 to replace but removal of the trans is much simpler since there are less connections to the engine. Dealers rarely do their own transmissions and most wind up sending it to a local trans shop anyway.
