Hi all,

I need everyone's opinion. I just bought my first Caddy. I got it from the local Don Massey Cadillac dealership. The truck has a custom paint job that I'm not too sure about. At first I hated it, but the truck was a great price, has low miles and they gave me what I wanted for my trade in. I've had the truck 5 days and the color is starting to grow on me. The top color is the original Blue Chip and the bottom is called Balboa Blue. It looks almost gray in the photos I just took but it is the light. I'll post some in daylight tomorrow.

What do you think, keep the 2 tone or get it repainted Blue Chip?

Thanks

The problem would be that the whole car would have to get painted. The top part cannot be just masked off and have the bottom sprayed, it wouldn't match. You would have the get the entire thing painted for everything to match. At my old body shop, you'd be looking at around $2000.
If you like the way it looks.. Have at it. It's your opinion that matters the most, but I would have mine painted a solid color.

Hey lux
How much to paint a whole escalade ESV from RED-E to White Diamond?
Hey Lux....what shop do you use on LI? That price to do whole truck is good price. Does that include removing all plastic clading first, then painting the truck and the clading and putting back together???

I knew the whole truck would need to be painted. It it impossible to see in these photos, but the blue chip portion of the truck has some pin stripes on it as well. The problem is, is that the stripes are paint, not stickers. I'll post more photos later to try and show everyone.

Thanks for all the input!

The painted pinstripes, believe it or not, are the easiest to remove. Buy a small quart of laquer thinner from ace hardware or walmart. Get some on a rag and just rub it very gently. It should come off like butter, just use a little at a time. Follow up with a quick wax to the area you just cleaned, because the laquer thinner will wipe away any wax/protectant. The reason this happens is because the pinstripes are painted with a laquer base paint, and will not harm the factory finish because the clearcoat is not laquer based.

As for the body shop question, i said "old body shop" cuz my uncle sold his. I do mobile work now, touching up bumpers at peoples homes and used car dealers.
And white diamond would have been around $2300 (3 stage paint is expensive!)... thats just the exterior, no jams .... the handles and moldings removed before paint... it was a good body shop with great prices, i regret not buying it.
Hey Lux:
What do you do wih scratches on a black vehicle? Do they make some sort of black colored wax that would fill in the scratches, let dry and then wax??
Curious how you would take them out. Pretend its on an 05 black escalade, not a 97 beater...lol

Thanks :hmm:
If the scratches are deep, it needs a repaint. If they are minor, then use some compound on a rotary wheel, followed by some glaze!

Okay, here are some better photos.

What does everyone think?

Thanks in advance for the input.

It kinda looks like a cross with a Chevy Avalanche... it does not look bad I am just not used to seeing them like that! What size rims you got on there btw?

Rims are 22's. I've seen another post about the exact same rims. I think they were Cadillac optional oem. They do have wider tires than the 22's on brand new escalades though. I think the 22's on a brand new escalade are 275 and mine has 305's. I like the beefier look of them.
I like it alot, i love the pinstripe and the hood, very different. i would throw on a high end grill and call it a night, most people pay an arm and a leg to get some paint like that, so why i would pay more just to look like regular everyday Escalade? Thats a one of a kind lade there man, almost car show status.
I personally LOVE it. Might be because blue is my favorite color... Lol. Keep it! Very original, very NICE! Btw, wheels look great too.
I must admit the paint job is starting to grow on me as well. My first impression was to repaint it. But now, i say leave it alone. Don't know if it was the new pics or just time that changed my mind. The details in the paint job are great. are my eyes correct, is the grill painted to match also?
Yes, the grill is painted to match. Someone had mentioned getting a new grill, but it you look, the hood lines match up with the grill.

I think it is starting to grow on my wife as well. I told her the estimates on a new paint job and suddenly the 2 tone wasn't so bad!
LOL. I'm sure she can think of a lot of other ways to spend that money. I know mine sure could.
Looking at your paint job got me thinking what my pearl white 2004 would look like with a similar pearl black treatment done on the body cladding and hood? I think it would look cool! May have to find someone to photo shop that for me!
