The real dissapointment is that they could have stepped up with the 06 and chose not to. You have to make Caddy as important as the Z06, if not more important. I still don't see why someone would choose an XLR-V for $100k over a $65k Z06> A drop top is not worth $35k more and with less performance to boot. Luckily they are making only around 1k of each of the new V cars, because at those prices they will have trouble selling those.

I concur. If you are going to build a low volume specialty performance vehicle, make it SPECIAL. That's what they did with the LS6, but what next?

Can you imagine the V with another 50 ponies (or more) from the factory? Yikes.

The bar is being raised. If Caddie won't lead the parade, they had better, at least, keep up.

I also agree. In fact, even the lowly Charger (SRT8) gets more horsepower than the Cadillac. This may be my one and final purchase of a Cadillac (or any GM car for that matter). If the Charger came with a stick I might consider sellling it now for one. It appeals to me because it better embodies what the muscle cars of old were all about - no frills and lots of horsepower plus the hemi in the SRT8 gets all the good parts, forged crank, etc. With a little work you should easily be able to get 500 + horsepower without having to worry about the bottom end.

I like my V a lot but, I'll wait and see how Cadillac responds to all the new competition out there now and will vote with my dollars.

The Charger will probably be slightly faster with any driver other than a pro at launching.

Cadillac can counter with the LS7 motor if they choose. The problem though is marketing. If they put the LS7 in the CTS-V who would buy the STS-V at $77,000?

I agree with everyone's posts above. The general knows what he has to do to stay on top of this HP game. When introduced in '04 the CTS-V beat the M3, S4, anything from Lexus, Infiniti, Jaguar and inadvertantly even the M5 for thousands less. IMO they have two choices, either a detuned LS7 or a pumped up LS2.

The LS7's dry sump oiling system would have to go along with a few other minor changes to make this cost effective and keep the Z06 guys happy by keeping it in the 450-475 range. The LS2 would be easier for Hill and others to swallow and has another 50-75 ponies available with a more agressive cam and possible some head work.

2007 is said to be a new platform, body style, etc. I'm looking for the CTS to get smaller to better differentiate it from the STS. If it loses say 250 lbs. and gains 50 HP..........well we all can do that math.

I'm sure they'll give it a healthy power bump for a few reasons:

1. It looks like the Corvette SS ( aka blue devil ) is a go, so it shows us that they're not satisfied with what they have.

2. V sales are barely ok, if they plan on selling any against the future competition they'll need more power and advanced features.

3. It looks like GM is really looking towards FI, mostly SC's for future high output engines and even some of their smaller engines. (I read that FI will be a trend for the future because it allows manufactures to squeeze more out of the engines. Although a turbo setup would be better than a SC due to less parasitic loss.) So I wouldn't be surprised to see a FI small block CTS-V along side the SC N* STS and XLR-V's.

If it were me (damn I wish was) I'd do it right once and for all. The car wouldn't hit the road until it could kick the shit out of the new M5.
