I just received an alert on the infotainment screen as well as on the app.

"Important Update GM N24-F172AD"

Has anyone else recently received this update and if so what is it updating?
Could it be the beginning of OTA updates?

So GM is not good at publishing release notes. But from the sound of this - it is another update to improve the updating process. I know - funny, right? For long term Lyriq owners who had several OTA updates on Lyriq before the freeze and pauses, this is the 4th software update that is supposed to do this.

It does say that you need this in order to receive future updates, so apparently needed. Doesn't sound like anything too earth shattering to end-user functionality, or they would make at least some mention of other things impacted. Are there any bug fixes in addition to shoring up the update process - no way to know.

If they release this for 2023's, I'll review and detail which modules had their software updated. But what the update does - that will remain a mystery unless GM gets a lot better with descriptions.

At least your screen remained visible. I had backed the car out of our garage and then started the update. As directed, I turned off the car and while the update performed fine, the screen was so dim it was very hard to read what it said. GM should use high intensity lighting during updates so people can watch the thumbsucker messages and know when it is completed.

That depends on how you have your update settings configured:

Select Preferences in Vehicle Updates:

You then have 2 items to configure:

If the Download Updates in the Background is not on, updates will only download to the car manually. Even with it on, they only download. They will not install until you allow the install.

If the Download Updates via WiFi When Available is not on, updates will only be downloaded via the onboard cellular (active OnStar is NOT required). If on, they can be downloaded via WiFi connection (such as in your garage) where the cellular may not connect.

Have only seen mention of this going to 2024's so far - not 2023 or 2025. And likely a slow rollout. Previous OTA updates have been fairly random on who gets what / when. Based on the limited revision text of what the update does, trim / drivetrain / options should not matter.

Your Mean WiFi in your garage right ? which is its own thing. 5G is a 3GPP Cellular Phone Standard used when you are not at home.. It is one or the other...:)

How do you get the car to remember your home WiFi password? I have to re-enter the password every time I leave home and then return. When I asked the Concierge about this, she wanted to know why I wanted my car connected to my home WiFi in the first place...like I was stupid or something 😬...trying to deflect me from the fact that the car has a memory problem. I know the car can use the other connections, but what happens when I stop subscribing to those? It will need to remember my WiFi...like every other vehicle and device I own does.

It seems like new update is out! N24-2442960

Meanwhile my vehicle didn’t get the first update yet…
So understand that campaign isn't new - was from August of 2024. What is new is that it is now apparently being done over OTA update. Previously you had to go back to the dealer for this.

My best guess is that they figured out a way to update the OTA system with OTA update N24-F172AD. And after that, you can get the multiple module update package - via OTA. But if you went back to the dealer last August (or more recently) for them to update the car with their programming equipment, you are already up to date - and won't see either of these OTA updates.

I am still not seeing OTA updates and I was in the dealership in August 2024 or any time after August 2024. I still say no OTA updates are available based on the software levels in my Lyriq and it's behind in software updates. So thumbs down.(n)

All of this is made more confusing by the opaque nature of dealer/OTA updates. I got the multi-module update at the end of August (at least I believe they complete the update since my car was hooked up to their system for a few hours and the printout said I received it). I just got N24-F172AD, which installed successfully. Here's hoping we get some actual improvements to meaningful systems in the Lyriq!

Yeah, and additionally problematic because some dealers don't do the process right (GM didn't make it easy for them). For example, VWP (vehicle wide programming) targets the majority of modules in the car - but not all. They still have to update the radio manually, and that itself is a two step process (dealer tool, and USB). Some people have reported here that dealers weren't updating the radio (infotainment). So just more variables in the whole software updating - so many cars with a mixed bag of software loaded in the many modules.

My first notice for this update of my '24 was when I parked in my garage yesterday. I kicked it off but it didn't take. My car connects to my home WiFI.

Today I parked outside at a restaurant and kicked it off again since it is supposed to take only 15 min. It worked.

So OTA communication must be by satellite. There is no unsecured WiFi near the restaurant.

Yes, this has been a common theme with applying all Lyriq OTA updates. For best results, have the car not plugged in - and with a good cellular connection. Something about the process relies on communication back to the GM mothership, and WiFi is not connected (or it doesn't use it) for that part of the confirmation process.

I just got an email from Cadillac about needing to take mine (DE) into a dealership for a software update. Called the dealer to check and they said I don't need to and my car already has all the dealer applied updates. Don't know why Cadillac sends me these. 🤷‍♂️ Seems like whenever there's any sort update campaign I get an email like this.

Can you share the email?

The dealer can't check if your car is up to date - without your car. They can see if there are any open campaigns, but to know if the car's many modules are current, they need to plug it into the diagnostic system and run the Vehicle Wide Programming. This scans all the module's software, and compares with the GM backend. That will update everything that is out of date, and provide a summary also. Then manually update the infotainment, if required.

If you haven't had your car in for service in some time, it is highly likely you car is not current - given so few OTA updates going out (and none reported for 2023's since they have been re-enabled).

Regarding the failures, was the vehicle unplugged and in a clear area for good cellular OnStar signal? The two things have generally been required for successful OTA updates on the Lyriq.

And yeah, based on a prior time when OTA updates were more frequent, if the update doesn't apply after a few times, it has been known to disappear for awhile. Or could be that GM pulled it due to some issue.

I just got my car back from dealership. Car claimed it required a software update which the dealer "applied" last Aug. So now my history screen shows: GM V66.19 2023-11-27, GM V66.16 2023-11-26, 85685846.mnf 2023-12-07, 85727297.mnf 2024-08-13, 85767297.mnf 2025-01-23. Car shows no other available updates. Most noticeable change is now the gauge cluster is animated when starting. Car is a 2024 Sport 3 AWD made in Nov 2023.
