Yeah, that got your attention, didn't it? Same thing I said when I saw it for the first time. What the hell is an Arabian Edition?
My buddy bought the car up in Salt Lake City last year, then moved down here to Mesa, AZ where I first saw it. I instantly fell in love with her and told him that if he EVER sold it that I wanted to be the first to buy it. Low and behold he found interest in a pick up truck and sold me the STS just about a month ago.
She does need some TLC on the inside, but cosmetically she is acceptable (could use a paint job). The stereo was removed and a crap deck installed, but not wired properly so the antenna doesn't function and the front speakers are removed and in the trunk. The driver seat is weathered and torn, and the weather stripping could use replacement. The luggage rack was removed and tackily filled in with silicone (ugliest part of the car).
When I got her, the pulleys were making a horrendous noise and he knew there were other issues that needed to be taken care of, so he sold it to me for half of what he paid for it, which happened to be KBB price, so I was ok with it. I replaced the water pump (source of the noise) and she started running hot (250+) so I checked the thermostat only to find that there wasn't one. I installed one and she still ran hot, but only when the A/C wasn't running, and then when the coolant level reduced it would overheat on idle. She sprung a leak in the upper hose, so I replaced that and also the radiator cap. Mind you, I am using DexCool during all of this at 50/50 mix. Still, she heats up into the 215-230 range and occasionally will blast into the 250's. No idea what is causing this, but it is affecting the heater tremendously. Rear heater will not blow more than warm air, and the front heat isn't much better. On a 90 deg setting it is a tollerable warmth.
Aside from the coolant issue, she needs new plugs and wires cause she idles like shit and is only getting about 13-15 mpg even though the fuel mileage tracker on the dash quotes 18 avg and on highway runs it shows a steady 33 mpg on that instant indicator.
The struts also seem to be an issue, as she has a vibration above 50 mph in the front end. Tires are wearing well and show no signs of imbalance. Steering holds straight as any other car I've ever driven.
I pulled the DTC's and came up with these:
P034
P048
P052
P085
I039
I052
No ACP Codes
R033
R034
R061
As of right now the check engine light is off, and only comes on with the low coolant level. It was on steady ever since I bought it until I replaced the radiator cap and upper hose.
Other issue is an exhaust leak coming from what sounds like right under the pedals. Sounds bad ass if your running along a concrete wall, but at a stop light the fumes come right up into the cabin... and then it just sucks! LOL
So, that's my baby. Anyone know anything about the "Arabian Edition" of the '92 STS? I looked online and can't find anything. It's not an overseas vehicle, was made in Detroit in 9/91 and according to CompNine.com is the only vehicle of it's type in the database.
