You guessed it, PIN STRIPES.

Until today when CVP pointed it out I had no idea that my car had aftermarket pin stripes. This explains the high dyno numbers, surpassing More Performance's stock V by 15 whole rwhp!

When I was buying the car we test drove a bl/bl and I told the guy I wanted a different one (duh) since they had 3 and I wanted one that wasn't a test drive car. It was night time by then, and I guess I had no idea that the new car he brought out with 12 miles had these incredible aerodynamic enhancements.

Oh well, I can't say they bother me since I hadn't even noticed them in a month and 3300 miles of driving.

I even got them for free, a huge savings!

332rwhp bone stock with 515 miles, I haven't put it on the dyno since then (3500mi now) but I will once I throw the Corsa + cats + MAFTB + retune on it. Already have the airbox no idea what I picked up with that.

Cartek's owner reports that due to normal dyno compensation they tend to read 7-8hp lower. If you put on an aluminum flywheel you'd gain 8-10hp on your dyno sheets. So, depending on your optimism, you can ratchet that in around 340.

pin stripes from Lund Cadillac....coming soon, price unknown.

That's great!

This reminds me of a mustang shop near my house.

I have a friend that used to work there and he said that when they dyno'd (sp?) stock mustangs, they would do 3 pulls. They would take the lowest HP reading and say that is what the car did stock. He said that the 3 readings could differ greatly sometimes, on average about 10-20 HP depending on how the cooling fan is set up, etc. When the shop added one of their mods, 3 more pulls were done and the highest HP was used for the mod. A claimed 20 HP increase could probably only be 5-10 HP at best if the best HP numbers were used for each "stage."

He said he even heard of some shops installing dirty air filters in cars and dynoing them with no cooling fan on the dyno.

Something to think about.

I was standing there at the dyno so I know there wasn't any funny business done to the car, but he could easily have calibrated it differently I suppose. I had seen other cars up on there as well.

Typically, what the other shop guy told me (the one who ran my car) was that you let the car sit 30-45 min after the first pull and the 2nd usually shows a much higher #. He was right there was a 9hp gain and you could hear the car was pulling stronger the 2nd time around.

So shops that rush cars in and out and make 1 pull probably end up with lower #s as well.

Oh not at all; I completely agree. The only way you will know if a mod helped your car is by driving it, you should be able to feel the difference of 10-20-40-XX horsepower hitting the ground.

Dynos are a flawed tool of measurement, but other than time slips and lap times, they are all we have to go by without beating the car up. I couldn't care less what time my car runs in the 1/4 mi and around the road course, as long as I can beat the people I am up against. ;)

For those interested, Dinan put together an excellent technical description and test of chassis dynos... and the effect of heat, fans, engine computer management, and more. Check it out, awesome: http://dinancars.com/whitepapersFile.asp?ID=9

Cal, I don't doubt your butt-o-meter claims... but my opinion is that on 400hp, you cannot feel 10-20hp... just IMHO. If so, you should already feel it everytime you drive your car, when it loses 10-20hp as the weather heats up, as it dials back timing due to occassional low octane in the gas, lack of cooling, or whatever.

globed70,

I would think 10-20 hp would easily be noticeable.
20 hp is a 5% difference on 400 hp.

Temperatures make a huge difference.
I own a '87 IROC that has the Tuned Port Motor.
These things were designed to run hot.
In fact, the second cooling fan doesn't even come on
until the temp hits 229 degrees!
After I pull out of a drive thru it feels like I have lost 30hp.
It will barely run it is so close to vapor lock.
Once it gets to 180 degrees it will spin the tires at 20 mph.
