Well I was at NTB the other day confirming that I have a bent wheel (thanks to virginia's fine roads) and I talked them into test fitting some tires for me. 255/50/17's fit just right. I don't think you could go any wider. The overall diameter is correct. There seems to be a reasonable selection of tires in this size on tire rack. I'm not sure if I'm going to go with a summer tire, and then switch to snow tires in the winter, or if I'll go with some all season tires. Either way, it'll be a serious step up from the stock rubber. Just thought I'd share the info so the rest of you can make use of it. I'll be upgrading as soon as I get around to finding a new wheel.
