I'm about to get the new diff and was wondering...is the new diff from the current STS, 06 CTSV or 06 STSV? I was just curious. :hmm:

Also...I read the additive is required for this new diff. Is this correct???

Thanks guys!

Mine is starting to whine between 44 and 48mph after driving for around 15 minutes. 12K on the 2nd one, 1.7k on the first. I'm not even going to change the fluid since it only seems to delay what is coming anyways. What ever happened to the 220 post sticky of rear end problems (maybe Cadillac complained too much)?

It's actually going to be later than that. I don't know what strings CTSV05's dealership pulled but they have a lot higher clout than mine. My service manager even tried to pull some strings to get the 06 and warranty claims will not use it as a substitute right now. Just my 2 cents.

Just an FYI. I bought a Std CTS diff off ebay as I wanted to see how it was built. Unfortunately THIS DIFFERENTIAL IS A TOY!. It belongs behind a 4 cylinder. The fact that it actually stands up to a V8 at all is amazing. The gear whine in my opinion develops because the case is probably not stable. The wear pattern on the teeth is not what I am use to seeing. The pinion depth is short and I see no way to load the side carrier bearings which were also worn on the edges of the race.

There is a solution....someone needs to construct a replacement differential to replace this unit. Anything else is a temporary fix. This is of course my opinion but given the differentials I have seen and worked on this one reminds me of a chevy Vega.. I hope some substantial changes were made to the 06 STS unit.:annoyed:

I was going to call the dealer and get him to put the new one in cuzz I thought it was out already. Now, I will just wait and listen to the whine and hope the pumpkin doesn't split on me.

If I *had* to guess (and yes this is nothing but a guess), I would say it was dependent on where the $ is coming from, in CTSV05's case it was out of (his) pocket and he could get whichever part he was willing to pay for. For warranty work we'll get whatever is left in stock 1st.

Ben,

Yeah, that was my assumption also. I did think that CTSV05 had part of his covered under warranty though. Anyway, I've used all the resources I have and it isn't going to happen for me. Maybe someday.

Shane,
From what I understood none of it (the money anyway) came from warranty, rather out of Doug and the owner of the dealerships pocket. So that is most likely the reason he got that diff, and not the junk replacement that everyone else has been getting.

Here is an internal. The cover is less than 1/8" thick.
Wow, :shocked2: I'm surprised they last as long as they do. Damn you Cadillac...:hitstick:

Amazing. I can only shake my head in disgust. I hope something good eventually comes of this.
