I just got my first Cadillac('99 Eldoraldo ETC.) It's in very nice condition and only 80,000 miles. I have some questions about it. I'm not sure what the dimming switch is? or how it works? Also my fog lights aren't turning on, is there a button I need to push? And everytime I turn the traction control off, and i try to squeal the tires, it turns back on, is this normal? And this is also the first autonmatic I have owned, will it hurt it if I drive it like a standard with the 1, 2, 3 gears as long as I don't run it to hard atleast. Last, there is the RDS button near all the radio controls, I have no idea what that does!

Is there any problems that I should know of about the car before they come?

Also, does anyone have two(2) center caps for sale? They need to be chrome.

Thanks in advanced!

Welcome to the caddy club!! Are you talking about the twilight sentinial? You should be okay driving it as a 'manual' but just leave it in 3 around town and D on the highway's, the RDS button is a feature on the radio that allows you to program the type of music you want to listen to into the radio (I never use it), now its time to do some research on northstar performance, don't get talked into any aftermarket 'chips' there are NONE!! And a k&n will actually be worse for your engine stick with a good ole WIX. You may want to do a tune up, coolant flush, Throttle body cleaning, spark plugs (AC delco ONLY!), and other misc parts.....and last but not least learn how to pull the codes, your car has a built in code reader, there's a sticky on how to do it in the seville/eldorado home page

Leave it in drive. Pull it into 3rd down the mountain as needed. I think if you turn it off it the traction control may default back on the next time you cycle the key.

If you have a TC lamp indicated on the dash under normal conditions there is a problem with the TC.

If thats the case, go up to the sticky, click on the link follow directions how to retrieve the DTC codes from the DIC(driver info center by the odometer).
Look them up to see what they mean the link has all the info. The only tool you need is a pencil.

If you are trying to spin the wheels or heavy braking or driving erratically the lamp may indicate.
If you find it difficult to spin the wheels that's because the TC is preventing it.

The TC is meant to be on at all times although the lamp shouldn't indicate unless there is a problem.

Do you get a TC indicator lamp? or is it a TC message on the DIC?

If the problem only occurs when you attempt to spin the tire, quit trying to spin the tire & see if the TC problems go away.
This car is a poor choice for a drag racer.

Thanks for this tip. I was looking at getting a K&N just cuz I live in a rural area and it's easier for me to clean the thing than track down a new one each time but for the cost, I can get a dozen regular filters and not have to bother cleaning it so I think I will do that and it's actually more cost efficient. Good advice.

Your fog light switch (rectangular pushbutton) is in the same assembly, but just above, the twilight sentinel, which is to the right of the pull-out headlight switch.

Keep in mind, that there's no real aftermarket for these cars, and as other members of this forum will remind you: Thou shalt not use snake oil in a NorthStar.

Enjoy the ride!

BTW, check your local Craigslist and Ebay for the center caps to match yours. Depending on the year of the wheel, they're slightly different sizes. A lot of what you need can be gotten off donor cars.
