New 91 DeVille owner (pics added to first post)

Hello everyone my name is David from TN and i recently purchased a 91 Cadillac Deville. It is actually my wifes car or so she says but since it is our only vehicle at the moment it is really ours LOL. We are the 3rd owner and the previous two were elderly men. The car is well taken care of for its age and only a few minor issues that i will need to handle once we get some warm weather next week. Mechanicly it needs the heater core replaced which from what I have read isnt nearly as hard as some I have done in the past and it is also throwing a code SOMETIMES when driving for o2 sensor. Not sure how hard the o2 sensors are on these cars to reach but I have done alot of mechanic work on various cars from old 70s model muscle cars to late 90s hondas. I have done full motor swaps in cars, custom air ride on cars, sound systems, etc...

Future plans for the car are to install my DVD/CD player and either my 2 12" JL subs or my 1 15" JL sub that i pulled out of my late 99 astro van .... since all 3 wont fit and leave room it will be one or the other for now until i decide whether to do a custom box later....

Also im interested in putting some newer model 18" cadillac wheels on it if they are compatable. If not maybe an aftermarket set but i really dont like dealing with aftermarket wheels without alot of thought out planning

these are just plans at the moment but since it is a shared vehicle I cant go all out nuts on it like I have on past vehicles. It is a cadillac though so it should flow smoothly and cleanly in my opinion. Well I hope to get along well here and I will post pics up later.

well here goes nothing .... hopefully the pics work. Its been a while since I posted pictures to forums

Here she sits dirty in the carport ...

Interior shot ... no cracks in dash and pretty clean (wet spots are from feet that day)

Engine bay shot ...

Subs out of my van that im going to be putting into the cadillac (either the 2 12s or 1 15)

We've got as few member on there from this region. I'm 30 mins South of Chattanooga.
There are alot of cadillacs in this area driven by older people it seems. Most people I know are against cadillacs because of their reputation for being expensive to maintain, but since I feel I can do most work on it myself I dont think it will be too bad. I may be fooling myself though but only time will tell.

Welcome to the C-Body club!

These cars aren't expensive to maintain, but some of the jobs will drive you insane if you let them (read: spark plugs, the 02 sensor). The first thing you should do is order a Helm Inc. Service Manual for the car off of eBay, I got mine for around $20 and the thing is worth its weight in gold.

The car looks pretty good by the way, but I've personally never like the wire wheels, because the alloys for these cars are pretty nice :)

Yeah. They CAN be expensive, it just depends on what needs to be done. If you can do it yourself, or know someone who can, most repairs aren't too bad. If it has to go to the shop it can get ugly quick, but that's mainly because labor rates are outrageous and the FWD models can be tight to get to stuff. The 4.9 is a tough old motor though and will run forever if you take care of it. One member, gdwriter, gave his '91 Deville to his niece with roughly 265k on it and she's still running strong. If you get into something that you don't know, there are a lot of very knowledgeable and helpful members here. There's more info floating around on these pages than you can ever imagine. Best of luck on a great looking car. I hope she serves you well.

Yeah, as I said in the first post for future plans some newer wheels. Im not sure if any of the newer cadillac wheels are interchangable with the older DeVille but I am planning on different wheels. I have never liked hubcaps on anything.
