Need some convincing...

I know there are tons of posts about buying a new cold air intake. They are all a couple of years old though. Please tell me if it is worth buying a volant cai. Maybe someone with one, tell me if it sounds too ricey. I do not want my caddy sounding like a honda driving buy. I just want it to have some growl like the V when it goes flying by you and you say......wow that sounds sweet.

i have a volant CAI on my 3.2L that sounds good to me. i definitely don't think it sounds ricey at all...
Save the money and do the TonyA mod. The difference in power is so small you wont notice it. Search TonyA or the great intake challenge.

sounds like he's looking for sound than he is for power. TonyA mod* utilizes the stock air box & silencing system, so it probably isn't what he's looking for.

K&N - Loudest
Volant - Most powerful (on a 3.6L)
TonyA - Best HP:dollar ratio

I have a K&N Intake on mine. It's loud if you get on the gas, quiet like it should be otherwise. I love it.

Exactly. I have one n my 3.6. It sounds loud but smooth at high RPMs but anything below 2500 it sounds jsut as quiet as the stock.
Im getting a little better power nothing incredible and maybe .2 to .4 mpgs on average. I drie the same way, same route everything 5 days a week and i used to get 20.4 about now im getting 20.8
If I didn't drive like an @$$ I'd probably get better gas mileage. I get around 19 now, I used to get around 17. I don't know if I'm just driving like less of an @$$ or if the intake does give me 2 extra MPG.

P.S. I'm 19.. with a cadillac in college, when I see good looking college girls I like to show off haha!
Oh and if it stays in 2nd or 3rd gear(I'll have to pay attention next time) while I'm going up a hill.. and it drops to about 1500-2000 RPM's it gets a real deep throaty sound to it.
Do you guys think it would be possible for some one without very much knowledge of cars, to do the Tony A Mod?

Yes, you'll be fine.
well I just sacked up and bought the volant cai for the car. I just hope it is not that much of a pain installing it. Does anyone have a few install pointers that made their life a lot easier when doing it? I went to the cadillacfaq.com and it seems pretty thorough on the walk through. Any tools that helped them or parts they had to remove?
Lol thanks to this thread now i think my cts has a hint of ricey sound to it... OH GOD NO! Every time i turn it on it sounds like my 99 sts's v8 crying for me to come back.

Let me know how it turns out and how long it took ya to do. Im now really interested in buying an exhaust and intake some time down the line. Tell me what u think of the sound too.
The Volant install was pretty straight forward. A pretty basic bolt-on application.
What i liked about the volant was... yes, the power gain, but also that it was still recognizable under throttle. With the volant air box, you can easily create an opening in the front of the box, increasing air flow (in theory) and "growl."
It is definitely no substitute for an exhaust, though.

sparktite-
You can pick up a CTS-V exhaust from a V-owner in your area for as little as 100 bucks. No performance gain, but cheap way of getting a note out of the car.
Or go custom. Check out the thread made by "SVB4EVA" called, "Finally Broke Down... Custom Exhaust!" or something like that. I think he spent less than 500 bucks for his whole system and, having driven behind for 50+ miles, I can vouch that it sounds great. (More noticeable than the magnaflow on my 5.7)
there are a couple more options.
Check out www.cadillacfaq.com >> "videos" for exhaust clips for your car.
Thanks again caddy kid uve been so helpful. But honestly a lot of the stuff on that thread is kinda going through my head, ive barely owned a car for maybe a year almost 2 and i barely touched that car, now that i have a cts im starting to research everything.
So, what I have gotten by reading all of the posts in present and previous posts is that you get more horsepower out of the Volant... Is this a true statement? I read through the "Great CAI performance test" and got bored, but that is what I gathered. I could care less what it sounds like as long as it is faster! lol
on the 3.6L, volant showed the most gains.
on the 3.2L, there was a bunch of information going around, but the general consensus is that the K&N offers the most gains for that motor.
