I want to install my Valentine radar detector using the wiring at the mirror. However, I need help finding the ground and power wires there; several plugs, very small and difficult space, etc. Has anyone done this in a 2014? The wiring is completly different from other years of CTS and CTS-V mirrors. :-( Thanks for any help.

I wish someone would chime in here, I'm trying to do the same thing on my 2014 CTS but with a Escort Max2 detector and BlendMount's mirror tap. Reluctant to attempt prying off large cover above mirror without damaging it.

Not sure why everyone is trying to tap into the mirror. It seemed easier to me to run the wire under the lip of the headliner and down the a-pillar, (molding just pulls off), and into the fuse block on the driver side end of the instrument panel. The 7.5 amp fused is switched by the ignition so the detector is only on when the engine is running. Alot easier than trying to get into the mirror and there are no visible wires.

I am planning to do the same installation and have purchased a fuse tap to pull power from the driver's side fuse panel. Can you tell me what fuse you tapped into?

Thanks.

OK, I wish I had pictures, but I don't. I did the install you are trying to do and it works great. The key move here is getting the cover off. You will have to get a voltmeter. Can't do it without it. $10 at Radio Shack if you don't have one. You also need a spatula. Rubber end with a wood handle so you don't scratch anything. Pull down on one side of the black plastic cover that is over the rear view mirror assembly. Pull very hard and maybe it will move 1/8 of an inch. Slip the spatula into the opening. Now just pull down on the spatula and the cover will pop off enough to get your fingers in there and pull the rest of the cover off. Remove all the covers, but remember how you did it. Now, as I remember, there is a junction box in the front with about 8 wires coming into it. I used 2 sewing needles and stuck 1 into a black wire connection (ground) and then I went around the junction box with the other needle. I would take the probes from the voltmeter and touch them to the needles with the car in accesorory mode. At first I was looking for the right power wire, then I was looking for the one that switches on and off with the ignition. Not that hard to find it. Wish I had taken a picture, but I didn't. Once I had found the 2 correct plugs I pushed the Invisicord plugs (if you haven't bought this for $10 you are going nowhere in this installation) into the jacks and plugged it into the detector. Boom, it worked! Now run the wires around and put the covers back together and push it back on. Use the Blend Mount to attach the detector and plug it in. Turns on and off with the ignition. Remember, this is from my memory a year ago, so little parts of this description may be wrong. Good luck and good driving. BTW, take a picture for future posters to see.

I tapped into the 7.5 amp fuse in the picture. Once you know what fuse to use, it is a 5 minute job and you are done. Really not sure why you would want to go thru all the effort with a mirror connection when both methods don't have any wires showing.

Did it! I used the set of wires closest to the mirror. For me, it was the second and forth wires from the right, in the harness. Now I have to do my wife's new Vette.....................:bigroll:
