Hello all!
I bought a 1966 cadillac convertible and cant seem to get the tail lights to work. It turns out that there are several electrical issues. Im sure grounding is the major thing to check for, but I would like to pic your brains first and not waste time chasing rabbits. I think i may need a little carb work as well. I am in the Tampa area if it matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
There is Pinellas Carburetor on ulmeton road across the bridge.
As to the lights, these are a PITA since partial loosening / removal of the rear bumper might be necessary to even change the bulbs. Verify that you have the 12V going to the positive lead first, then check grounds, etc. Get ashop manual so you know which wires to probe.

Yes, i changed them all to be sure and that was indeed a PITA. The hazard lights blink faintly, but just cant get brake lights or blinkers to work. Can you think of why flashers work, but not blinkers? Im sure it is mostly grounding issues...any one in the area that i could pay to help?
Welcome to the Cadillac Forums. As recommended, your issues (plural) are exactly the reason to get a genuine 'Factory Service Manual', one or two softbound issues (usually HELMS, not Haynes or Chilton). For any half-century old American car they are the only means of staying ahead of all the gremlins like this coming your way v. getting bled dry by a shop chasing these bogies at normal shop rates - and no guarantees for success - and lifeforce draining increased blood pressure. Sorry, got on a roll there.
An FSM contains not just the detailed wiring diagrams to answer your question about "why this light and not that light", but also has logical diagnostic routines to direct your effort. Until you buy the manual(s) just run leads directly from the battery to each bulb to confirm you're even working with functioning sockets.
They're usually $50-80 used on Ebay, but surprise - $15 incl. shipping:

I bought the service manual and body manual several months ago so good there. I am just learning the new baby so as with any vehicle there are many experienced owners that know tricks and tips to check.
Check. You ought to post up some background and pics of your recent score for everyone else on here to gain insights and oogle over. Suggestions and directions could range anywhere from checking for mice snacking on wiring to normal rustbelt issues. Thank goodness cars this old most everything can be tracked down with just eyes, a VOM and jumpers.
