Hey guys,
My SRX is at Moore Cadillac for an oil change and replacement of the front and rear brake pads and rotors (including brake fluid flush)... They told me the total price for the service and brake job is $1,500... Is that reasonable? Thanks..

Eric - Tough call without knowing mileage, climate, driving conditions and year model as it relates to brake fluid flush.
Have heard there's a simple chemical test (not unlike testing pool water) that determines if fluid's contaminated Otherwise, I'd be suspicious of need to change out brake fluid simply because pads and rotors are worn.
Here's some treads to consider:

Thanks for the quick response, but I was really wondering whether the price was reasonable..

My son did mine with 4 rotors & premium NAPA pads for roughly $350. Labor, especially at a dealership is the killer, but figure $85/hour +.

Even som $1500 seems awfully high!

Sounds high to me. Oil change $30.00. Pads ~ $100.00 per axle, rotors under $300.00 for the front at list, $226 for the rear. Now if they are putting NEW GM calipers it will ad almost $950 so that may be where the cost is coming from. The genuine GM parts are available on the net for close to 50% off so not knowing exactly what they are doing I would recommend getting a detailed breakdown of the costs and then determine if you want them to do it. Without knowing how many miles are on your car, you may not need new calipers or possibly even the rotors.

Is it Moore Cadillac In Richmond VA? If so, they charge $100/hr.
The dealer will almost always be more expensive than a local brake shop.

I'm changing my front brakes this weekend, the previous owner had thrown on some $10 cheapies, that are wearing really fast and producing a lot of dust. I never understood people who buy a 50k car and try to be as cheap as possible when it comes to things it needs.

I'm going with Hawk HPS pads, I'm still thinking about doing the back, but we'll see how easy the front ones are first.
