Well, what has happened is the lithium battery in the head unit is dead (7 years old) and when the battery died in the car the nav unit lost the software that is stored in it's memory that is needed for the system to operate. The firmware is NOT on the DVD map disc. Take a look at the PM I sent you...

Hello, I am a new member to the forum. I own an 02 DTS and need some help with this problem. Today Road side assistance jumped my battery because the car would not start. Now my Bose Radio/Navigation system is not working right. The system is telling me that I need to insert the System Disc. I even put in my original Nav Disc and it does nothing. After I insert the Nav Disc and hold the tilt button the screen does not close it just ejects the Nav Disc. I am currently using the 7.0 version GMp/n25861392U.
Any help would be appreciated.

Charles, thanks for the information. I think this forum is awesom and I wish I could affirm your generous offer. The problem is I have been unemployed for over a year and to make matters worse seems like no one wants to hire a 60 yr old no matter what your talents or skillsets are.

i am getitng a unite from a 2005 deville at the begining of the next month and putting it in the sevilel but i am worried will i have this same problem evye rtime the batter is disconected from the car ?

You shouldn't have a problem. Jason will have the software.

oh im not worried about when it comes time to putting it in i mean like when i go out of town for like 2 or 3 months at a time i disconect the batterie usualy when i park it in the storage garageYou shouldn't have a problem. Jason will have the software.

if i take it to the shop and they have to disconect the batteri for some reason am i going to loose the memory and have to reprogram it again
I know what you mean. And I am thinking Jason will hook you up with a copy of the CD. You just have to put the CD in and let it do it's thing. The main thing is to have a copy of the CD for when it is needed.

is there a way to store like favorite places in the navie or program and have it saved like say your home or somthing like that so no matter where you are you can always just hit a button and have it stored in there to take you home or last desitinations or do you have to event the adress each time

this is one of the unites i saw that i was thinking about getting becosue i think with 2 others on ebay at 499 with no scratched i can probalby get this guy to take like 350 or 400 with a scratch im hoping
but if you look at this unite and see the scratch in the upper left corner do you think that is somting to really worrie about
will it afect the way the unite works ?

The scratch will not have any impact on the screen working. It is purely cosmetic. In fact, you may be able to polish the scratch out if it really bothers you. It does however make for a good bargaining chip...offer him $300.

also is there a special owners manual for the navi unit or do i just find a manual form a 2002-2005 deville or seville and wil it tell me how to work and operate the unite or is there a special owners and operations manual fo rhte navi unite i have not been able to find one on any google searches
I think the scratch will only be noticeable when the screen is off. Some window cleaner and a microfiber cloth may almost make it go away. Can't really tell without seeing it, though. There is a separate navigation manual from the owners manual. They are available on eBay...this one is reasonable I suppose...

You will probably have to see if the local dealership has the software CD. The 07 STS uses a different unit than the 02-04 Seville/Deville.
