My 07 nav system "wakes up" any time any door is opened and the vehicle has been off. I believe it's loading program info in preparation of it's being needed. It wants to be ready when you are. I do understand it does it evertime a door is opened whether you are driving somewhere or not.
Navigation Disk Noise
My '07 navigation disk makes a whirring/searching noise even when then engine is off. I think I saw a post about this problem some time ago, but I can't seem to locate it. Thanks for any info.

I believe that the owner's manual states that this is normal.
My new 09 SRX makes the same noises as does my 06 Vette. It must be a design trait of the GM system as our 08 Accord doesn't make a sound.My '07 navigation disk makes a whirring/searching noise even when then engine is off.
