It doesn’t happen all of the time, but when I am in the car alone, after starting up the car, I get five chimes. It sounds exactly like the sound you would get when you have not put on your seatbelt. After five chimes, it stops.

I don’t get any notifications on the dash.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

Thanks you!

This happened to me when I leave my cell phone in the middle of the passenger seat. Apparently this is a known issue. There may even be a tsp about this.

This makes sense as I had groceries on the passenger seat. What puzzles me is that I always put groceries on the seat. I even did a test drive and put just my phone on it, then a heavy suitcase and it never chimed.

Today I took it on a two-hour drive and the left -hand turn signal would not automatically turn off. This happened just once. Later in the day, the same thing happened with the right-hand turn signal, just once.

Then, while driving, my purse fell in the back seat. I reached back to pick it up,
and three red lights appeared on the speedometer, between the numbers 60 - 80.

This is baffling.

I appreciate your reply. If I have to take it to the dealership, I will report back.

I'm assuming that you have your seatbelt fastened before you start the car?

If you have not fastened it on startup ... then the chime is to tell you to fasten your seatbelt. It will chime 5 times and then stop (unless you fasten the seatbelt during the chiming ... at which point, it will stop).

If you have already fastened the seatbelt before starting the car, then perhaps the seatbelt buckle (the short side by the center console) is malfunctioning. My son's Malibu has a malfunctioning buckle and my 08 DTS did, too. It did not register that the seatbelt was buckled and would still chime at you when you started the car. The Malibu will also periodically chime at you whilst driving ... because it thinks the seatbelt is not fastened.

Hope this helps...

Yes, my seat belt is buckled. There is never a warning on the DIC.
The tech told me today that a cell phone laying on the passenger's seat can set the seat belt chimes off. I will be keeping a close eye on that. As others on this forum have pointed out, this is a known issue.

I recently experienced a situation with both my left and right blinkers. They would not turn off unless I did it by hand. This only happened once with each blinker.

I talked to the service people at my dealership today. They feel the problem is that I don’t drive my car enough. It is a 2017 that I bought new last November. This is not a typo, but it only has 1,700 miles on it.

They feel the battery is stressed, and to put a battery tender on it. This will be my next step.

My Mother has a 2016 XTS and last winter her car would not turn over.
She has 7,600 miles on her car. Les Schwab came out and started the car, and we went to their store to have the battery tested. The battery was super low.

I feel the techs hit on something here, and that is the problem.

If anyone can recommend an excellent battery tender, it would be most appreciated.

Thank you!

Kaidee, I have had very good luck with the Deltran Battery Tender Junior on ATV's and Motorcycles, but it would probably be better to use the full-sized Deltran Battery Tender for an automobile. They are inexpensive and available at many sources, such as Amazon. They are processor-controlled, so that you can keep them connected to your car constantly if needed. They will charge the battery as needed, and will stop charging, and go into maintain mode once the battery is fully charged. You can't damage your battery with this unit no matter how long it is connected, and your battery will always be fully-charged when you take the battery tender off.

I hear a chime every now and then. It reminds me of the type that happens when a key is left in the ignition and the door is open. Since it is inconsistent, I attribute it to a flaw in the system.

I second the Battery Tender. Had one for ten years and have never had a dead battery, even after storing the XLR for a year. If I had to replace it, I'd get a Battery Minder Plus, which has an extra mode to keep your battery healthy (desulphater).

Both have permanent lugs to connect to the battery terminals and an inline quick disconnect that stores under the hood to quickly disconnect and operate the car.

Schumacher Battery Chargers and Maintainers

I have used a older Solar unit for 10 years and still have it to this day.

PS:
I also have one of their Electronic style chargers and the old clunky metal luggable units.
I use the solar charger/maintainer for my home generator.
Thinking about it though, I did have to replace the solar panel.

In addition: if you use a solar panel you must use a charge controller.

Thank you everyone so much for the replies. I appreciate all of the information on the battery tenders too.
I am really hoping this solves my problem as I love the XTS.
