Hi all!

Last year, I noticed my trunk smelled mouldy. (moldy?)

I finally decided to check out the spare tire well, and it was covered in water!

I thought maybe one of those 10 gallon water bottles had dripped or something. So I cleaned it and went about my business.

Anyways, I smelled mold again.

I opened up the spare tire compartment yesterday, and yet again, it was full of water!

I understand that other people have had leaks around the onstar antenna, back glass, etc.

Has anyone had this before? The trunk carpet is wet near the backseat... not near the part of the trunk that opens.

Does anyone have any idea where the water could come in from? Do you think the sunroof can cause water to get into the roof, down the sides, into the trunk?

My dealer is useless, so I want to help them as much as possible....

Ideas/experiences are welcome!

Thanks!

I've only had my CTS for 3 weeks, however, when I was cleaning mine I noticed the trunk seal had come off a little. I pushed it back on with no difficulties.

Although it seems minor, check your trunk seal and ensure it's completely sealed, no rips, tears...etc.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I have no idea man, but if your dealer is useless, take it somewhere else.

My dealer has a water specialist that he hires. Comes in once a week. Got a spoiler? I had a leak around mine. I'm thinking the larger rubber gasket for that much water. Do you use the high pressure car washes?

Thanks for the info, guys.
I never realized that there is a "leak" specialist. I guess that's why they set my appointment so far ahead of time, when 'the guy' is there.

I guess I know what they mean now.

And I ONLY wash my car by hand, and use a very low pressure wash. Just a rinse is all I use.

As you know, the other problem I have is with my driver's door which sometimes feels like there is half-a-gallon of a water inside it.

My father said it's VERY important that all the interior parts be checked, because they could be rusting like crazy.

I keep my cars for a long time, so it's important to me that rust doesn't start early....

Well, I found my first issue with my car since buying it in August last year.

Has anybody found the definite cause for water in the spare tire well? I decided to check the air in my spare this weekend and found the spare tire well 2/3 full of water. I assume the water has been slowly accumulating since I bought the car; the car stays outside most of the time. I do not have water in the trunk lid itself. I've pulled the side liners loose and determined the trunk floor liner padding was soaked on both sides, most likely from water in the spare tire well wicking up the padding, so I've completely removed the floor liner. I'll be going inside the trunk with a flashlight and someone will be spraying all of the water access points down but I don't hold much hope of finding the leak that way; it's obviously a very small leak. Push come to shove, I'll just drill a hole in the front of the trunk well and so the water will drain out. I'll perimeter glue a piece of sponge over the hole so that dust won't get into the spare tire well.

I believe I found my leak - I am working on photos to illustrate a post on this soon...It was NO)T the sunroof rear drains, or the rear glass seal. Check the weather seal in the trunk rain gutter, a few inches alongside the hinge mechanism. The outboard side, not the large weatherstrip that runs along/around the entire opening. Water works under this, and drips off a seam inside the felt liner, just forward of the ONSTAR module( right) or radio amp ( left)

I used some marine silicone clear sealant along the weatherstrip edge.

I realize that this is a 10 year old thread , but I had a similar problem with water in the wheel well and found that the problem was with the grommet for the tail light that was not in place. This provided a one inch hole behind the tail light that water was pouring right in. Easy fix!

2010 CTS Wagon 3.6 with 45k. I just went to check the spare tire pressure after many years and found the spare tire well full of water to the point that there was some water in the sub woofer. Luckily no mold, no smell, no sloshing.
I read on the CTSV forum that the sunroof drain could be a problem. Lo and behold apparently when the battery was changed out the tube might have been knocked out of place. Big rains coming in a couple of days, we'll see.
