My 2004 SRX ....Stolen!

My 2004 SRX V-8 was stolen last night from my driveway. They "compromised" the OnStar system too. :banghead:
I know that I will get another one but I really liked this particular SRX. No problems and ran great. Also, I got a great deal on it. It listed for $50,000 and got $15,000. off. Thanks, I just had to vent....

Wow, that sucks. Just make sure with the next one (assuming all goes properly with the insurance), you have a proper security system (the factory one won't help you much, and neither will Onstar since most thieves can disconnect it in about a second).

Hope it works out, but in the meantime...:mad2:

Luckily, it was a company car. :bouncy: I want another one, of course. Hopefully, I can find a nice '05 or get really lucky and get an '06. :yup:

I would like to know how they compromised the security system. i put a lot of extras on my srx and it will piss me off to see it stolen. You don't see that many cadillacs stolen these days and maybe yours was just towed away. Look out for those guys cruising the neighborhoods in the wee hours of the morning with their pickup trucks converted to tow trucks.

All they have to do is cut the main coax cable to the onstar system and its gone. The thing is, they have to know what they are doing, cause gm does not provide wiring diagrams for that to the public.
I wish they would compromise my STS out of my driveway. But that will never happen, when I worked the hurricane lose in New Orleans a Cadillac dealer was ransacked everything stolen out of there back lot, except the STS's and XLR cause they did not know who to start them.
But they were nice enough to throw bricks through the ones they couldnt steal. Its a bitch when the car is smarter then you..

My insurance company would not give me the stolen car locator discount because they said the OnStar is easily defeated. The only one they recognize is LoJack. I also read an article that most vehicle security systems have been compromised and the info is now avail somewhere on the internet.

Sorry to hear that you lost your SRX. In recent years in SouCal, I have lost 2 Cads to theft: the first - at a local shopping center - had the factory system only: was gone in ~15 min; the second - at a grocery store in front of the local court house with 2 civilians & a marshall watching (they got the license number.....of my vehicle...as it left the parking lot) - had the factory + club: gone in ~20 sec!!. I now will not take a car from the dealer without LOJACK; my current 1999 Concours and 2005 SRX V8 both have GM OnStar + 4-prong clubs + LOJACK!!
It has worked so far!! Wish you good luck with your next SRX!!

I just checked the Lojack site but, the nearest dealer is about 100 miles from me in another state. Oh well.

Unless you need it in the house, why not leave your cell phone on and on silent under the seat? They could then track the phone using the GPS. Guess it would work.

Well, I got a call from the police today. They FOUND my SRX! Only 6.5 miles from my house. They "compromised" the OnStar by removing the rearview mirror and disconnecting TWO connections. They didn't cut a single wire. The perps (twerps) used up a freash tank of gas (250 miles) and then left it on a Dead End street. Really no other damage other than the passenger side fenders were both dented. I'm just happy that I have the SRX back! :worship:

First, we are glad that you got your SRX back!! But something seems to be missing; how did the thieves start the car?? Did they break the switch or was it towed away?? The "magic key" needs to be specifically programmed to start your car ?!? I got a regular key at the locksmith for "valet" service, but it only works if a "magic key" is first used to start, then turn off & quickly restart (within a few seconds) with the "valet" key. How did the thieves bypass or gain access to the starting & ignition circuits - surely not via the rearview mirrror and OnStar only?? I have been advised by several acquaintences that the "anti-theft device" that locks under and over the brake pedal really works well because removing or disabling it takes the thief a relatively long time compared to the sawing of a steering wheel to remove a club.
Also, my auto rep suggested that - since most insurance companies require used auto parts to be used on insurance-paid repairs, stolen parts are typically in high demand - some selected parts sell for many more $$ than complete vehicles.

so all they really did was just go joy riding??? i was expecting your car to have headed straight to a chop shop and be in a ton of peices the next morning.

Something does not add up. How did they bypass the immobilizer? The pass 3 + immobilizer is not an easy bird to disable. I am very interested to find out how they took it. Onstar is easy to disable but the pass 3 I have never seen bypassed yet. They must have either stole the key or somehow programmed one from you. In other words they would need one of your programmed keys or a Tech 2 to program another key. The system is bullet proof in my book. Of the four caddy dealers I do I have never seen a cts or srx or even a deville with this system stolen without someone programming another key. The only bad part of the system is it only takes one programmed key to program another to it. Say you valet parked the car and gave up a key. All they have to do is get a pass key cut and it is easy to program. It could of even happened at the dealer. This is too fishy.
Need more info.

Sorry it took a while to respond. Here is what happened: The door was unintentionally left unlocked(!) and they found the valet key. Yes I feel stupid. These guys have stolen 4 autos (as of this past weekend) in my neighborhood. So, no, they weren't super thieves. They had some help from the owners. ;-(
