I have a 2013 Cadillac ATS and initially I was able to plug my iPhone 12 into the adapter and it would play music from my Spotify, Audible, etc. For some reason it has now decided it will no longer play any music from my phone and will only work if we plug in my sister’s iPhone 13. It is paired with the car and I can make phone calls but nothing else will work. Does anyone have any advice? I feel like I have tried everything aside from getting a different adapter. I have gone through all the settings in my phone and in the car. The most recent information in some of the other posts in this forum dates back several years so I’m hoping maybe there is some new info out LOL. Thanks so much!

For a 2013, I think there are two ways audio can play from a phone. One is via bluetooth, which does not require the phone to be plugged in, the other is when the phone is plugged in and is recognized by the system as a storage device, that is, a thumb drive. I think the latter only happens with Android phones because the iOS file system doesn't work that way (my main complaint with iOS).

So, I suspect that your problem is with the pairing of your phone to the car/radio head unit. Have you tried re-pairing it? By re-pairing, I mean forget the current pairing on your phone and start over again.

The reason I said "For a 2013," I was assuming that your car radio/head unit does not have CarPlay (or Android Auto). Those use some combination of wired connection (unless the head unit is wireless for those apps, which I don't think was ever true for the ATS), and bluetooth to "do their thing," including play music from a phone source via the onscreen app.

Not relevant to OPs post, but in case someone wanders in here with Android Auto/CarPlay questions.
