I had a muffler shop cut off the stock muffler/pipe back to about the rear axles and then have 4" Magnaflow tips welded on. They look much better than stock, and let other drivers know I am up for a race.

The only downside was that there was some resonance inside the car after this was done. I ordered 40sq ft of eDead 80 from Elemental Designs. The box was 13lbs shipped. I ended up installing about 10lbs of material - which was less than the stock mufflers so it is a net gain.

For the most part the resonance is gone - the only way to make it happen is to try to accelerate in a high gear (5th or 6th) when the RPMs are between 1500-1800. And it only starts to happen after you have your foot into it for a few seconds.

Cruising on the highway I would actually say overall the car is quieter, but you do get to hear the exhaust instead of road noise.

Watch it in HD please instead of the viewer :) youtube.com/watch?v=6BHAlmAGFzc&fmt=22

- I tried to show how quiet it is inside but the camera compensated and raised the sound level. Notice how loud my keys are when they hit against the dash, or you hear me shifting and compare to the exhaust.

Nice vid and pics. I think I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on this mod.

I like the tips install. The magnaflow catback seem to stick out from the bumper cutouts about 2-3 inches. But your setup is flush with the bumper cutouts and I like it that way.

Yea I stood there the whole time they were installing it to make sure they had it flush :)

I also forgot to mention - the CLUNK is much quieter too... so its not as embarrassing when I am showing the car to co-workers!

Will,

you wanna go this route? maybe we can find someone to give us a "group" rate on the welding.
will, yeah a package deal would be real nice. Im probably gonna throw on an Xpipe first and see what that does..

You know of any shops that would hook us up.. When i was at TTP they said they could do the job no problem but their labor rate is pretty pricey and this isn't that complicated of a job

I pulled the trigger on the muffler delete today. Thought it would be fun to try it after reading so many positive opinions. For 50 bucks, I figured what the hell, I can have them welded back in if too loud. Lets just say they're definitely going back in when the fun wears off. I'm going to hide enough cash for some dmh low pros which is really the journey im on, but I knew this would give me a good impression of what coutouts would sound like open (which are prob even louder depending on how far up the pipes they are). For daily driving, I don't want a "statically" louder exhaust (not this ******* mod, or pricey full setups)..I really like the stock quietness and was one of the reasons for getting the V. I know some exhausts sound great!! so, not knocking the concept. My mustang had straight pipes and magnapacks and I loved it, but it got old on the commute.

this is my no fluff observation.. lots of different threads and opinions on the subject, and I read them all before doing it.
sound- I can't say im overly impressed, but overall -nice..nice but funkin loud. Dont let anyone fool you, this shit is loud. The startup sounds good., but definitely way louder than stock. At idle inside with windows up, it's a bit louder than I expected it to be. Windows down, much louder. I'd describe it as, well, drone. A light but deeep drone. On takeoff there's a good bit of escalating drone/'good sound' up 2500-2800 rpm with a nice (loooud) high pitch tone right at 3K then starts to level off and take a smooth nascar sounding tone as far as you want to hammer it...the engine starts really singing with it about 4K. Normal cruising is fine. Not much louder than stock, BUT- there's still a faint drone. Our hanging idle issue is also kind of annoying. Of course, there's a backfire or 2 here and there- not cool especially if you're flossin. (not sure why it pops? loss of backpressure? were the stockers really muffling that much?) doesn't happen often, just when you top out the rpms.

One much anticipated positive- overall people notice the V much more. I KNOW they hear me buzz their ass now.. I'll be enjoying the WTF stares for a while, and of course I have to restomp every car's ass that I have before (as long as it isn't named E55 or Viper!)

My next step is to dynamat etc the shizznit out of my trunk and rear seat, probably double the amount Eric did above.. then cabin, and doors. then roof. then under carriage. yada yada but Trunk-rearseat is a must, then interior.. Once I go back to stock, It will be dead quiet, and the cutouts will allow me to choose when to turn on the fun.

OK ok, stock mufflers are definitely -NOT- going back on. I love the sound and want it even louder...but some of the drone has got to go. If I can get out relatively cheap with just some quality muffs that have a more refined quiet/low or no drone but nascar loud when I stomp it sound, I'll do that. Otherwise I'll have to wait. The slush fund is on lockdown.

still going to lay down the sound deadening either way..

Sounds like you need some Kooks headers! You will love them!
