OK, now there seems to be just a couple of detectors worth buying.
On the V is the rear view mirror the best, and what about location of rear detectors, or Grill mounts.

Any other locations for the detectors to be installed on V that work as well?

The laser receiving area has to be clean for best performance so inside is better behind the windshield wiper blade stroke. :)

For radar, higher is better.

i would think you would want those lidar recievers as close to the grill or front plate as possible since that is where law enforcement aims on their end.

Those guys aren't that good a shot! Ever hold a laser pointer on something at a distance?

That's why you see them parked perpendicular to traffic, window down and their head/laser gun resting on the door jam or headrest for hours on end!

If you pay close to $400+ you should have a detector with very good laser detection an will pick up the panning from the gun. Shit, I'll directly behind the targeted car off to the side and will pick up spatter. :)

well i only ran radar and laser for about 10 years so i probably dont know anything about it... :) but seriously i have an escort 8500 laser detector that will NOT pick up much of anything until the laser is pointed directly at it and nothing else. it basically tells you to pull over you have been hit! thats why my next purchase will be a laser shifter. those are your only hope and they SHOULD be mounted near the grill of the car. trust me sometimes we aimed for windshields but the best surface for laser is shiny metallic surfaces... period... your first shot is the grill or front license plate and your next is the windshield. and those things are VERY accurate..... very. so aim is no issue.

Yup, if your hit they got you. Black is the best countermeasure. My C5 with pop up headlights down was would cause multiple hits within 1/4 mile of the user.

Especially chrome! At night step back and point a flash light at the front of the car. The flashlight would love the reflectors in the rear. :)

Headlights off are another target. HID help as a counter measure. My 05 V with no chrome and no plate has your buddies cycle the trigger. :)

norm,
you are very correct. my c5 was hard to hit with laser as well. they are too slippery and no chrome. laser works best on trucks and 18 wheelers.

laser is a pretty small target with the band widening the farther out it is. its been awhile since i've researched this and maybe its changed but the last time i checked at 1,000 ft away the band is only 3 ft wide

On the 9500xi how are the updates applied, what is needed to update the 9500ix and are these updates free for a period of time or is there a fee associated with the updates?
