Motor change

Not easy to change. A lot of changes done to the sensors (physical size and location) which makes it difficult but not impossible. There was a thread about a month ago. You may be able to find it. The 95 is much easier to install.

Help I can not find the thread!! Now I bought a 1997 instead would it be easier? :thumbsup:

what ya doin with the old motor??? whats wrong with it?

It has a blown head gasket and 166000 miles so I'm thinking why fix it with that many miles! Do not know what to do with it yet!

depending on what you decide to do with the old one i may be interested in it. but depending on price since i would have to drive to virginia to get it from illinois!!! unless you know of a cheap shipper? let me know

I've got the same situation and the same question. My '95 Eldorado ETC has a blown head gasket and lots of miles. I can get a low miles 99 at a fair price, but the local junk yard said it would NOT work. I thought that was incorrect, so aside from sensors, is there anything that would preclude a swap? How big a deal are the sensors. Seems that if you use the sensors off of the old motor it should work...if they will physically fit.
Any guesses?

I guessing the intake needs changed, Thottle body, you might not use all the sensor holes so plug them, the sensor holes are different ? Someone know anything different?

so sell old motor and get a 1995 or older one!

The original threads of using a 2000 mtr in a 95 (approximately) car was over a year old or so. Then it popped up a few months ago, as some threads often do. The old sensors are different sizes. They can be modified to fit. The key...like all mods...is your skill. I didn't see it in my favorites...darn.

the 2000 up engines will not work in 99 back cars without major work . the engine may physicaly fit but all controls are different for example the 2000 up uses coil on plug system. the 97 engine should fit with the use of the 95 sensors. I know that the 93 and 94 engines have some physical differences from the 95 thru 99 engines and the 95 was a bit different from the 96 thru 99 engines but I think the main difference in internal parts. unless someone on the forum can tell you for sure, go to a dealer or a good on line source. and see if they list the replacement engine as fitting 95 thru 99.

They do. GM's part number for the complete engine is the same from 1995-1999.

haha its all good but i didnt see you on it i got the 96 rebuilt sts motor complete for 535, gonna go get it next weekend !! now i will have a spare N* sitting around, so i can do headgaskets later on it and maybe put it in my 91 z28 convertable that could be interesting!!

i had a friend bid for me since i was in florida when it ended!!
