Could we please get the forum title changed from "Cadillac STS Forum -2005 through 2010" to "Cadillac STS Forum - 2005 through 2011" or even 2012 (no official word yet that the STS will be canned for 2012... at least that I have seen). I know its gone soone, but last article I read said they may make 2012 models, until parts run out.

I know its going out of production, but everytime I visit the forum, I find it annoying that we are being short-changed production years :)

Thanks in advance!!!

Isn't a 2011 STS technically a 2010 with an in-service date of 2011?

Anybody have a 2011 VIN?

No, 2011 is 2011. Options may not have changed, parts may not have changed but it is still a 2011 model year production vehicle.

They would never market a 2010 as a 2011 for a number of reasons. Owner's manuals are year specific, decoding the VIN (government agencies/registries) would notice the incosistency between the bill of sale and VIN (10th character), etc.

So it is a 2011 in name(VIN) only. But auto makers have been doing that for years making small cosemetic changes or slight mechanical improvements until a new generation model. for example the difference between a 2004 STS(previous generation) and the 2005 STS(next generation) but from 2005 to 2011 basically the same car.

That's my take on this as well. As another example, GM added lane departure warning and side blind zone alert in 2008 (if I'm not mistaken) and in 2009, a speed alert and speed advisory system. Not sure if there were any other minor changes for 2010-11. Basically though, the car looks and operates much the same throughout the 2005-11 range.

Manufacturers nowadays don't stockpile parts. Most use "Just-In-Time (JIT)" or similar strategy for manufacturing so they don't have to carry large part quantities in stock. Smaller orders are made and delivered shortly before production. This is exactly why GM shutdown production of several vans (and other similar vehicles) a couple of years ago... A strike at American Axle as I recall.

Auto makers will sell the tool and dies for discontinued models and/or previous generation models to smaller independent manufacturers who make "OEM" parts in order to maintain existing vehicles when they break down

And you can bet those manufacturers will be in Taiwan. They are already producing many parts for the aftermarket.

The URL contains this information and changing that would attract flaming complaints from some frequent visitors. There are probably a bunch of complicating factors. Why bother?

There was no 2004 STS...they stopped the STS in 2003...for 2004 they only has the SLS model available

The 2011 STS's have larger headrests, and also the V8 Northstar was discontinued from the STS Lineup for 2011 as well.

Those are the only changes I'm aware of for the 2011 STS.

As someone who works in IT and has helped setup and upgrade many a website... This is not that complicated a process... A quick script run on the forums' db would easily fix this issue... Why bother? Because it would be nice to see the in-manufacturing years for all the models correcly listed.
