i have an 03 and use the same oil and have had no issues at all...
Same with me, just seeing if there was anythign better. Thanks!
Ok, so now I know what to use when I do my first oil change. What is it 5 or 10W30?
I would be the Amsoil guy. Well ok, not "the" Amsoil guy. But to be honest there are a few very good oils to use and some excellent oils to use and very many I wouldn't put in a 20 year old lawn mower. I would consider Mobil One to be in the Excellent category, and of course Amsoil. RP sucks, Penzoil Platinum gets some good marks. Red Line is well liked also.

There is an excellent Forum on oil called bobistheoilguy.com. It's not sponsored by any specific brand of oil and you'll get a lot of both opinions as well as factual data. I like Amsoil because no one else offers an oil that will go 25,000 miles or one year. They're filters are good for that long too. Unfortunately they don't have a filter for the 3.6. They do sell quality Wixx and Mann filters for the applications they don't cover.
I Use Mobil1 extende performance, but I look at the bootle and saw that is not GM4718 certified, now I was looking at the new castro Edge, which is certifed and offers 15k changing intervals, just like Mobil1 But after reading some information on the Corvetter forums and Cadillac Cts-v and seen some oil analisis posted, i just order my case of Amsoil oil and going to give it a try, and see.

My Cts runs great, no problems, been dealer maintain and i have 155K miles 95% are highway miles. I drive to work every day.

I will say, i just put my wife's blazerd with 125K to Mobil1 extended performance, mainly becuase she dont keep track of her miles, but i will be putting Amsoil next oil change.
The one thing I found with M1 is that it is a bit on the "thin" side when it comes to the viscosity. In our PT which we traded in on the CTS, I used M1 on the first change, then went to Amsoil. I DID NOT expect to notice any difference, so this wasn't just in my head, but it ran noticeably smoother and quieter.
I have been taking the CTS to my dealer for oil changes. Motorwerks in Barrington is the king. The guys there are really awesome.

Even for synthetic, it's a bit steep at $80. But I am comfortable with them, they check the car over, and hand wash the car. I do the V myself, but at less than 5k mi/year, I only have to do it once.
i use mobil 1 but ive been thinkin about tryin royal purple, finally found somewhere that stocks it locally...but its not cheap

I've never used it, but I know on BITOG it is not popular at all. Poor test results.
I used to use AMS Oil Series 2000 in my TBird bracket racer and would get the oil analyzed at the end of each season so I could keep track of engine wear. I then switched over to Royal Purple 2 seasons ago and again had my oil analyzed. The Royal Purple had about 30% less contaminates and dissolved metals than the AMS Oil. In all cases the same oil was run all season long and with both oils it would consume a quart or less. I run Mobil 1 5W30 in my CTS which consumes only a quart between changes.
How is that royal purple? My uncle uses it in his car and told me its great?

That's interesting. I'm assuming that you were using the same grade and type for both oils? S2K isn't something I would put in a bracket racer. I would go with one of their racing oils. They don't make the S2K anymore.
Were there any other changes to the engine? Have to compare apples to apples ya know. So if you were using S2K vs. whatever RP's racing formulation is, then that's not a fair comparison.
The TBird's a supercharged 3.8 V6 stock bottom end and takes 10W30 which is what my Royal Purple is. Racing oil is too heavy a weight and not recommended for that motor. The Series 2000 is 0W30 and claimed to replace 5W & 10W30 in severe service. I've never had any issues with either oil and all the car does is go back and forth to the track and make 13 sec 1/4mi passes all day or as long as I last.:D I think it's a pretty fair comparison. I like the AMS Oil, I just think it's overpriced. I'd run the Royal Purple in my CTS but the Mobil 1 is a dollar less per qt here.
Amsoil now makes a 10-30 racing oil.

You're right, that should be a fair comparison. It's odd though. From quite a few reports I've seen on BITOG RP is not well liked at all.
I have Royal Purple in my 2005 3.6 and it runs great! The only reason I went with this is because it was $10 or $20 cheaper than the Mobil 1. I have had used Royal Purple in my Ram Hemi in the past so I wasn't worried.
Redline, Royal Purple (aside from the price and depends on where you get it), Amsoil, German Catrol.

All great Synth.
