Mobil 1 M1-212A oil filter...

I recently purchased the Mobil 1 M1-212A oil filter for the first oil change of my 2016 V-Sport Premium's first oil change while I've owned it...the oil was changed by the dealership upon my purchase and AC Delco full synthetic 5W-30 was used along with an AC Delco Gold UPF-63R oil filter...

I have since found that Mobil no longer lists an oil filter for use and looking at Rock Auto and Walmart both show the M1-212A filters out of stock...

so my question is should I return this filter and just get another UPF-64R as the dealership recommends or see if Mobil comes out with some other filter for the LF3 or what all are you using for your cars???

any help or experience you care to share would be appreciated

I ended up returning that Mobil oil filter...seems odd as Walmart is still getting other Mobil filters but the M1-212A is no longer available or shipped...

the next order I make with Rock Auto I'll pick up a new UPF-63 like the dealership used...

thanks DriveOn

just an update for anyone in the future...I have a request in to Mobil about this filter...they in turn notified Mann-Hummel (the actual manufacturers of Mobil 1 oil filters) and maybe someday they will get back to me on the fate of these filters...

Mann+Hummel (Gastonia, GA) also makes WIX and other brands of filters. BIG company. Absorbed WIX (Affinia) in 2016, I think.

The Gastonia plant is the original WIX (1939) plant as modified over the years. Founded by Jack Wicks and Paul Crenshaw. Why Gastonia, GA? At the time that was where the best combed cotton yarn in the world was made. Oil filter material - I used WIX formed cartridge filters in my '65 Malibu SS 327/350.

except that Mobil no longer make them for the V-Sport...they don't show them on their website and local stores show an empty spot where once these filters occupied...

there is a reason they no longer make them and I am curious as to why...Mobil had no answer for me other than to forward my ask to Mann-Hummel and it's been a week without answer from them (although it is the Holidays)...

Are you sure? That same filter is still listed on their website for my CT6 Blackwing. You are right though they no longer list it for the V Sport for some reason. I use the same filter for both my cars and it seems to work fine? I bought a case when I found out they use the same filter so I'm stocked up.

they show it for the XTS V-Sport as well but show "no sellers found" for where to get one that's not old stock...

...I haven't heard back as to why Hummel+Mann is no longer supplying them to Mobil and Mobil informed me they would seek an answer from Mann+Hummel as Mobil themselves had no answer why it was removed from their available filters...

still nothing from Mann+Hummel or Mobil...

until I read something from a reliable source that's better, I will stick to the AC Delco UPF-63R recommended by some reliable and trusted sources...

never heard anything back from Mann+Hummel or Mobil...but I see that the M1-212A is easily found but not yet listed on Mobil's own website for use in our LF3 (or the LF4)...I do see it listed as an alternate filter on RockAuto.Com...interestingly RockAuto.Com does not list the AC Delco UPF-63R as a fit for the LF3/LF4 but still shows this filter available for sale...

a check on AC Delco's site still shows the UPF-63R as an alternate filter for our cars...

I've been using Wix WL10255XP synthetic oil filters and Red Line Synthetic Motor Oil 15305 5W-30. Most anything will work, we all have our preferences. The claim made for the Wix filter is it has capacity for longer oil change intervals, typically 7K miles if one follows the OLM. I wouldn't be surprised if Wix OEMs other brand names.

WIX supplies part of the NAPA Gold line of filters.

Mobil 1, "AC Delco" and "GM" filters are contract-sourced from any of 3 or 4 suppliers, Champion Labs being one.

went to two Walmart stores locally and the M1-212A filter is the one missing from the fully stocked Mobil 1 filter shelves...hopefully because it's a popular filter...thanks for the feedback guys

Fair question. Maybe they are clones but I've been using ones from Amazon for a few years now and do not see any particles in my oil when checked or changed. WalMart online has a 2 pack right now for $17.94. So there you go, maybe those are chinese clones also.

that was true at one time...Mobil 1 filters are made by Mann+Hummel (according to Mobil) and a couple of years ago the AC Delco filters changed manufacturer...
