Michelin Pilot Super Sports

I'm considering a set of these tires.

From Tire Rack:
Michelin PS2
Stock Front Size: 255/40-19 9.0" rim width 27.0" Diameter
Stock Rear Size: 285/35-19 9.5" rim width 26.9" Diameter

Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Front Size: 275/35-19 26.6" Diameter
Rear Size: 305/30-19 26.3" Diameter

The diameter difference front to rear are close. Will 275s fit up front w/o rub?

They will fit no problem

Check the reviews. From Car and Driver on down everyone has raved about the Hankooks. Basically no meaningful decrease in performance, twice the tread life, and half the price.

Between my V2 and Cobra, I'm on my 5th set of PS2s. I'm giving these Hankooks a try next on the V2. I have no issues with the performance of the PS2s.... just the tread wear. I hate replacing these tires all the time. For a daily driver, that amazing grip that the Michelin's provide goes away VERY quickly as the tread melts away. So while the PS2s look great on paper for grip, I find most times I'm stuck with a balding tire trying to eek out a few thousand more miles so I don't feel completely ripped off.

For the Cobra I'm keeping the PS2s since it's a weekend warrior.

I was thinking that same setup myself. Hurry up and try it...:bouncy:

I am right there right now on tread. The other down side is if you live in warm climates and DD the car they get hard before the tread goes.

Pretty funny. I just mentioned the Hankook V12's to a couple members yesterday. I have a little tread left but will be ordering a set in the next 60 days.

Less than unanamous...

Has anyone installed 275/35-19 up front and did they rub under hard cornering or tight cornering w/ steering wheel at full lock?

I'm sure the Hankooks are good tires for the cost. I walk to work and use the car mainly on the weekends. A tire that has higher treadwear will not stick as well under hard cornering. Simple physics. I'm not particularly concerned about the cost. I want a max effort tire. I'm looking at the Bridgstone RE 11 as well. They are less expensive, but the rears are on backorder right now, and the fronts are 265/35-19. I think the 275 would keep the stagger bias closer to stock and give better bite with the wider fronts.

Not too simple, Blu? Isn't that what the fine folks at Michelin are saying about the PSS vs PS2? Higher grip AND significantly longer treadwear? Your OP prompted me to do more research on the Super Sports, and I'm intrigued. I've had PS1's and PS2's on my last three vehicles and I really love them. Don't love the price/treadwear combo, but would be willing to pay the freight should the treadwear on the PSS's be a bit better.

Now the issue for me becomes when do they become available in our OE sizes, or at least fit well on our OE wheels? I can't see the 305 working well on the 10" rears...

BTW, I justed checked tread on my original shoes (11K miles) and it's at 4-5/32 all around---except for the right rear which is at 2.5/32 (ergo, approaching the wear bars). Why would one rear wear significantly quicker than the other side? If the PSS's aren't available soon in stock sizes, I may go the Conti Extreme Contact DW's for one cycle.

I'm usually a little less dogmatic with my posts... it was late. Generally, a softer compound (lower treadwear) will yield better traction and cornering grip and that was the intent of my statement.

The 265/305 combo from Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 has been successfully used on stock rims by others here and are less expensive than the Michelins.

The rear tires look like they fit the rims perfectly, and it seems the fronts could accept a bit more width, so that's why I'm leaning to 275 with the PSS. This would give +20 mm front and rear to maintain the stagger as well.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports in stock sizes...

I'm really interested in the new PSS's after doing some research. The performance envelope has expanded overall vs. the PS2's, and treadwear is the biggest benefactor. Unfortunately, they are not yet available in our factory sizes.

While I know a few have tried an alternative fitment using RE-11's (265/35/19F and 305/30/19R), I'm not ready to deviate that much on stock 9" and 9.5" wheels.

Exploring the Michelin website, their table of available sizes does not include our factory 255/40/19 and 285/35/19. When I called Michelin customer support, the very helpful gentleman logged my request and took down my contact info, but did say that our CTS-V2 sizes were not on the May rollout calendar either (only three new sizes next month).

He did mention that others have called to request our sizes, and that info was passed along to Michelin marketing. Since our V's came factory equipped with PS2's, I'd hope they'd be early in the queue for PSS fitments.

If you're interested, you can call Michelin Customer Support and request our stock sizes. The toll-free number is: 1‑866‑866‑6605.

In the meantime, since I'm ready to replace my original rubber at 13K miles, I believe I'll give the Conti Extreme Contact DW's a shot in factory sizes.

Why not the Bridgestone RE-11s? They are rated #1 for most categories. They are offering a $100 gift card back on 4 through the end of the month. I have no qualms about going a little bigger on the fronts either, but I will stay stock size on the rear.
