I have a metal on metal clicking sound that is coming from the rear when my car is really heated up. It is more pronounced when I backup slowly than when I go forward slowly. I took it to the dealer and they said some heat shield was warping/coming down and hitting the drive shaft. The noise isn't that fast in repetition as I would expect the drive shaft to be rotating. It went away the first time they said it was fixed but I think it was because of the lack of heat. Now its back they heard it once and can't hear it again.

Anyone have any ideas?

Do these cars have rear u-joints?
It this was an older car, the symptoms described match a bad or worn driveshaft u-joint to a tee. On a car this new, I don't know. Probably worth a look-see. If it is drivetrain related, the intervals between clicks should approximate either driveshaft revolutions intervals or wheel / tire revolution intervals. FWIW, & IMHO, if the car is currently at the dealers, I would drop in unannounced every so often and in a timely fashion just to keep things on the up & up.

Is this a loud single click/snap type noise or is it something that is rhythmic?
Is it easy to duplicate?
Under what driving conditions do you notice it, I know you generalized above but have you noticed anything more fitting to a pattern?

I still only hear it at slow speed...entering and exiting my garage speed, coming out of a stop sign slowly after releasing brakes and when coming to a stop at a sign. It seems rythmic in duration dependant of speed almost like its rotating and hitting along with the speed of the tires. It makes me think brakes or something in the wheel assembly but I'm no expert and the dealer said they hooked up sound equipment.

I can duplicate it on demand as long as the car has heated up....driving to work and back approxiamately 24 miles.

The only other weird sound I can hear out of the back end suspension is a "squish" or "whoosh" sound when going over a speed bump or dip in the road around 20mph range.

Thanks for the reply!

I have what appears to be the same clicking sound coming from the rear as well (sounds similar to the clicking that is coming from the front wheels). It only happens at slow speeds, especially when moving from a start (forward or backwards). Going into dealer on monday to hopefully fix front and rear clicking, sunroof creaking, rear brakes squeaking when braking at speeds under 10mph, and some door lock recall/fix issue. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Did it sound almost like sword fighting or like hitting metal pipes together?
OP hasn't been around in twelve years. All you're going to hear is crickets.
