Anyone else having door trim problems - my 2014 CTS V-Sport has had an assortment of minor problems but I was shocked yesterday when this piece of door trim fell off - there is no reason that I am aware of for this to happen and its shocking considering what I paid for the car.....

Assume you're talking about the 1.5" section of trim with an arrow head on one end? There is an outstanding reason it fell off, its not a great design. One of mine came off, but I put it back on and carried on with my day. #firstworldproblems

As far as I can tell, they should not fall off while driving, they slide off towards the main handle so should only come off when the handle is in the 'open' position. One dude sold his Vsport for issues not much greater than this (but they still lurk around here like a creep to hate on the Vsport) so that is an option. You bought the first model year of a brand new vehicle, there will always be issues even if you feel entitled to zero issues once you pass a price threshold. Mention to your dealer so they can work on a solution or give you updated parts if they exist. I'd bash GM if they didn't work towards solving problems but they have proven to me at least that they are not going to hang us out to dry even on issues that do not affect performance or driveability.

This happened on my car too. Picked up friends for dinner one night - as they opened the rear door to climb in, he picked up the trim piece from the ground, held it up: "Hey, do you need this?" Embarrassing and an odd failure. Dealer replaced under warranty, and it has stuck since.

My car has also "assortment of minor problems," which would include the door trim piece. Major problem with tire wear, but that's for another thread.

Just to set the record straight I'm not ranting about selling my car over this issue, I was curious if I was alone in this minor problem, but this thread is a testament to many other issues regarding my '14 CTS V-sport my car has the rattle, it had the odor out of the AC that unless posted here my dealer would have been clueless regarding the service bulletin. I find it hard to believe that every part discussed on these threads is new to this model CTS? Additionally based on JBawdens responses I feel that I must have interrupted an important lecture on the virtues of communism in the modern world?

Almost my exact experience. Sad but true.

This happened to the salesman showing me the car. Opened the door for me and the trim piece went flying onto the parking lot pavement. Not the greatest of first impressions, but once I drove the car I was hooked.

This thread needs a preschool director, not a PhD. Perhaps you missed the lecture about the virtues of having perspective in life? I have increasingly noisy OEM tires, had the wastegate rattle, CUE has rebooted twice for no reason, and the door trim has fallen off once and the only thing I've considered unacceptable is the rattle, regardless of how much the car costs. The rest are just part of the general ownership experience of complex and highly stylized modern vehicles, in my opinion. YRMV.

I don't know the sequence of how it happened, but at some point I tried to GET OUT of my car and without that thing it wouldn't open! (or maybe it wouldn't unlock). Either way, I had to open the window and use the exterior handle to get out. When I got out the piece fell to the ground. Hasn't happened since.

So, the trim piece on my driver's side door fell off, and is missing. It has reveled a key slot that I didn't know was there.
Where do I get a replacement? Will GM/Cadillac mail me one?
Stop by the dealer, show them and hopefully they will give you a new one for bad design. Otherwise you can probably buy one for cheap. I can't find a part number. Inside the piece mine says 4618-5000

Same thing happened on my vehicle as well. I slid it back in place and checked and fixed the other rear door handle which was loose also. As others said it's simply a bad design which comes apart too easily

i think of this as a bonus not a problem.....i like that if in an emergency i can slide that metal peice off to insert the key instead of scratch the paint inserting the key blade into the slot to pop the whole cover off....these slide off on a lot of the cadillacs..noteably ATS...just shove it on firmly....seems the factory does not do this firm enough, once shove on properly they should stay put

Kinda like... A few years ago when I bought my 1945 (hand-stamped) Inland carbine from a guy at a local gun show. I racked the slide back and the bolt fell out! Not supposed to happen, but it did. We were both a little stunned, I got the gun for $900 with a dozen magazines and 500 rds of ammo (less than $600 for the actual gun). The problem was just a bent slide, easily rectified...

I had the back passenger door fall off before an
after reading this tread I checked my doors this morning and the door insert on my front passenger door missing. Any idea on a price at the dealer. Will call my service tech tomorrow.

Picked up the metal insert from the dealer covered under warranty. My service advisor checked to make sure all were seated properly.

To check pull out the door handle and push insert all the way to the rear so it aligns with the door. Probably should check after car washes...
