I've been offered a new 2005 SRX w/AWD and Luxury Performance for $43K. It's Diamond White with Light Neutral. The dealer's also giving me a good price on the Volvo V70R I'm trading. So, first question, is $43K a good price? Looking at carsdirect.com and other places, used cars similarly equipped are going for about the same thing. SRX depreciation sucks but, at 28% off, I should be OK if I keep it for two years.

From scouring this forum I've learned: 1) White Diamond sucks quality wise, 2) make sure that OnStar's upgraded to digital at delivery, 3) make sure I've got V5 of the Navi disc, 4) be prepared for a squeaking/shattering Sky-View roof, 5) be prepared to live with GM plastics and switch gear in the interior, and 6) not to expect European fit and finish on the exterior.

Anything else I should know? Any warnings or advice?

Thanks. I look forward to contributing to the board.

Hi Barry,
I too, traded in a Volvo. It was a 1998 T-5 V70. It was a disaster from day one. We traded it in on a 2005 SRX V-8. We had one problem when we first bought it. The dealer was less then stellar on fixing it which made it so miserable. Other then that, it has been great.
Although the Volvo always had a new problem it seems, I do miss the quality of service on how they took care of me.
I do have a problem with the quality with GM dealerships. Some are horrible , some are great. They need to monitor their dealerships better.
By the price of your offer I assume its a V-8? You will love the power that your Volvo didn't have. Just be prepared not to get the mileage that you once did. $43K sounds pretty good. Especially if it has what you want and at the color combo you like.

By the way, Is the SRX new or used? If used, how many miles are on her?

White Diamond sucks? Mine is perfect, no flaws!

Ultra View squeaks/rattles? No problem here either, don't judge from the few that have had problems, people that have problems are more apt to speak up but the overwhelming population of owners do not have the ultraview problems.

Fit and finish? Equal to or surpassing many european cars I have driven (I have driven thousands) I have a nice little solid "thump" when closing the door, all panels fit tight and true. Interior plastic leaves a bit to be desired but in my opinion the performance more than makes up for it.
SRX05, I'll let you know tomorrow when I pick the car up. I haven't seen it yet but warned the dealer I'm pretty anal retentive and any noticable paint issues will kill the deal. He swears the car is "perfect." Coming from the Volvo R, the SRX is going to be night and day. The Volvo was built really well but the uniqueness that was "cool" in the beginning grows old. The seats are incredibly comfortable but huge making the interior seem and feel smaller. Even though the radio is in the navi unit on the SRX, it'll be easier to use then the funky knobs and settings in the Volvo. The Volvo navi has about half the features of the one on the SRX. Sucks that it only works when the car's stopped though. I found out the car has splash guards which are black on a white car. They may have to go. It has analog/digital OnStar so I don't have to worry about upgrading. MSRP was $62.4K and I got the car for $43.2K. They also gave me an insanely high amount for the Volvo. I usually keep a car for two years so at least I won't have to worry about resale. Wish me luck.

Good luck and make sure you can REALLY drive the car, take it to an open lot and have fun, its a blast!
Owned our 2004 SRX V8 for 2 years and 34,000 miles. We love it more now then when we first got it ! The car has been more reliable then any other car we have owned ( BMW's, Honda's)....
Welcome! Were you a regular on Swedespeed? I'm pretty sure there was someone with a similar user ID. I also used to have a V70R, until someone ran a red light and totalled it. My replacement was an SRX V8; my wife requires an automatic and I was really turned off by the whole Volvo GT fiasco. If you search here, you'll find a comparison of the vehicles that I posted way back when.

Anyway, good luck with your new Cadillac. The vehicles are different, but I haven't regretted moving to the SRX.

Hey Wagoneer. I was on Swedespeed and had the first customer ordered R on the west coast. It was a good car, but after 29 months I got tired of its moodiness. I've never seen a car more effected by temperature and humidity. I never really had any problems with it but if I'm going to get 13MPG (short commute) I might as well have something more substantial and comfortable. If I hadn't gotten the deal I did on the SRX I would have kept the Volvo. I never really had any problems with it. I picked the SRX up last weekend and so far really like it. The Navi on the Volvo was an ancient design so its cool to have all the additional electronic features on the SRX. Love the stereo, love XM, and love the UltraView (although it's 20 degrees out). My snow tires are due in this coming week but so far the Michelin's haven't been as bad as everyone's said. So far so good.

Interesting that so many Volvo owners like the SRX. I know a family who traded their V70 for an SRX. I have a V50 right now but need a bigger car and I would be very interested in getting an SRX also. I just can't afford a new one right now with prices starting at 65000 euros (base V6 AWD) here in Finland. I guess I have to get a used one in a year or two.
