Maxxis Tires

Do any of you guys have experience or know of someone who has experience with these tires? They have a high performance tire called the MA-Z1 that a buddy of mine that owns a tire shop recommended. He says they are made by Michelin and are an excellent tire for half the price. Can anyone validate this or warn me? Thanks in advance...
