March 08 - March 09....A year in pictures

So last march I sold the 90. That may have been the saddest day of my life, watching her drive away. The 90 was the car I always wanted as a little kid. My grandparents had a mid-80's Diplomat, light blue with dark blue cloth. I grew up loving large RWD luxo-boats. To me, the 90-92 Brougham is the best looking classic American Sedan.

Before I sold it, I worked all winter to cover the door panels, B and C pillars in two-tone suede. Real suede.

I did the speaker boxes as well

The sadness I felt quickly faded. Purchased the same day as the Brougham sold...the 94 FWB! Not a scratch or ounce of rust. Purchased by an elderly gentleman who only drove back and forth between Minnesota and California during the summer months. Everybody gets at least one gem in their lifetime, this was mine.

Definitely the funnest car I've ever owned, in terms of performance.

God I miss this car......or at least the power......Definitely not the same old-school feel as the Brougham......less refined interior and body....but much more competitive drivetrain.

Again.....sadness when I sold the FWB. Until I found......

I always wanted a 9th gen F-150. I thought they were the coolest trucks when I was younger, so I jumped on the opportunity to pick up a 96 Eddie Bauer 5-speed.

What a blast to drive all winter. This thing was unstoppable.

Well, a desire for better mileage (let's be honest, $4.00 a gallon again is not a matter of if but when.......) and an exhaust leak I wasn't going to fix lead me to.......

A 94 Lincoln Continental Executive. My dad had an 89 and a 92 back in the early 90's. When I was a little boy, I thought they were the coolest cars in the world. When I found this one on Craigslist, I was instantly 7 years old again. Not a terrific car in terms of performance, style, or competitveness, but I couldn't shake the memories.

It needs a little work.....but overall it's in great shape, and for $1200 bucks, how could I pass it up?

Nice deal for $1200! Watch out for head gasket and tranny issues. I liked the digital dash on those.
^That only sounds slightly familiar... :hmm:

Nice car for $1200 though. Looks clean.
All nice cars, and with them, you have not incurred a $1700 repair bill for an A/C Compressor nor a $1170 repair bill for a blower motor, and you do not make payments. There's something to be said about buying cars on cash and you've found that out.

Here are the pics I took of that Connie the day we picked it up. I was driving Ruthie's deVille.

That '94 was a blast, but I still like the '90 the most. I liked it since I first saw it at the first MN Caddy meet in May of '06. The way you felt in it, the way it looked out side, the amounts of chrome, leather and fake wood...just unreal. The '94 had the power and economy the '90 never had, but the '94 never had the soul the '90 did.

Congrats Brian on the Continental!! :)
Brian, was your '90 a d'Elegance model? I see pincushion seats in the rear but up front look like the standard seats. :hmm:

That was a beautiful truck as well. You never posted pictures of it (at least I never saw any) and it is rare to see those in good condition. Usually the rear wheel wells are completely rusted away.
Can't believe you sold that Brougham, that two tone paint was really nice. Major downgrade to the Continental though, definetly the worst car Lincoln ever made.

You must be too young to remember this:

It's kind of funny that the Granada-based Versailles was a flop, while the Seville, with a platform based on the Chevy Nova, was a huge hit.

It looks like your rear air bags need to be replaced. If you're interested check out http://www.suspension-alternatives.com/lincoln-continental-air-suspension-kits.php I got my coilover conversion kit from them for my '95 Mark VIII and it was a breeze to install. For your car to do the full conversion on front and back you're looking at $419 which is nothing compared to replacing the air bags themselves

There's something about seeing an old Lincoln with the watermark of GM-Classic's lol but those seats look amazingly comfortable

The main selling point for the car? Airsprings removed, and replaced with coilovers! That was the first question I asked when I called. I have all of my tools in the trunk right now plus some old parts, so the trunk normally sits a little higher.

Tanner had found some d'Elegance seats from a late 80's Brougham at the junkyard. The front seats weren't in as good of shape as the back, so I had pillowtop seats in back, stock in front. I'll tell you this much, the early 80's Brougham seats were much better seats than the 90 had. Much more padding, more comfortable.

Very nice. I was pissed because I bought my Mark VIII and had it for three days and then the level ride sensor went out on the front and jacked up the front end to the point that it blew the airbags which made for lots of fun to drive! But there was a little difference in the ride quality (if anything it was a little better) compared to the air ride suspension so that's one worry spot that you won't have to worry about anytime soon
That F150 was beautiful, one of the best body styles!

Oh, I know. My friend used to have an '85 FWB and it had the softest seats I had ever sat in. Here it is and trust me when I say you sank into those seats at least 6 inches, very comfortable.

Bizzare those pics came from a GM-classics website. Those Lincolns were a bit over the top but man that interior looks comfy!

Converting from air to non-air suspensions doesn't always work well. I did it on both my Marks and found that they actually handled much better than stock. I replaced the rear air shocks on my '98 Deville and it rode really awkward. Very bouncy out back and liked to shift from side to side over bumps. I remember the conversion struts for the Deville were real long but not think at all whereas the ones for the mark were thick and looked like real springs should.
