My neighbor noticed the other day- a 'marblely sound' that just lasted less than a minute. I checked today - and yes it sounds like marbles rolling around for about 30 seconds and then 'silence' (normal running). Worst case - could it be timing chain tensioner? Water pump?

Was hoping it was just low oil level, but sounds like it might be the timing chain. Probably not the water pump given the noise you heard.
Update
They found that the tensioner was 'bleeding down' as the car sits. $1700 repair picked up by Endurance. $100 deductible and cost of timing chain and misc. parts out of my pocket (~$300). They consider those parts as 'wear items'. I'll be sending GM bill for that- which of course they will 'file 13'!
