hey guys, its your friendly (kind of) favorite mad scientist back again and doing bizzare things with the CTS.
this is a continuation of a project a few of you asked me to look into.
the light up door sill with logo.
alright, i need somebody to locate the guy that was doing the cheap door sills with the "cadillac" logo or "CTS" cut out of it.
I have some lexan lying around BEGGING to be cut (its sick that way)
the idea is to layer the lexan under the steel cut out and "opaque" or "fog" the clear plastic then run an LED under the steel to make the whole thing light up.
I recently sourced some LED's with a magnetic switch and a built in battery pack. I wil lhave to chop a few things up but I think I can make this work.
when the magnet (attached to the door) is close (its a small magnet, don't worry) the little box says "off" and its all good. when you open the door the sensor feels it then turn the led ON and it goes to the little wires hidding by the sill and then turns the logo a pretty blue. nice huh?
alright so help me find the damned sills again.

Every single day on Ebay there is a guy sellin' the sills with the CTS letters cut out, not the vinyl stickers, like $20.00 for two. Kick A$$ idea. I'll keep checkin in to see how it turns out.

He was working on the glowing emblem....I thought he said he would put it on my car Gotta love Kael.......Im not sure if he abondoned it or if it failed....but I dont think he fails at much....

Acrylic can be ordered with a frosted pattern (or about a dozen other finishes) in multiple colors.
Try www.professionalplastics.com
I've not looked, but assume the door sills are aluminum? You'll need someone with a decent laser to cut it well - YAG instead of CO2 possibly (or some assist gas). Also might want to find somebody with a waterjet...just a couple of ideas.

One more thought - 320 grit sandpaper on an R.O. sander will quickly fog your acrylic without leaving any discernable pattern, as will many solvents.
